FESTIVAL INTERNAZIONALE DEL CINEMA D'ARTE -IXth EDITION

BERGAMO 16th - 24th  JULY 2010

Mission: an arts cinema manifest

To promote and celebrate the universal lenguages of cinema and art: this is the mission of the Festival Internazionale del Cinema d'Arte, a challenging event that in 2010 comes to its 9th edition.

A mix of screenings, side events, guests and meetings increases the value of the artistic week and give Bergamo a sophisticated mood.

The Festival artistic worthiness, the elegant location (Città Alta, the medieval upper town) and the high-caliber of both the national and international guests grant prestige to the Festival, that gains a main role in the cultural scene.

The event starts from the local resources involvement, to carve out an international visibility: the idea of "network" becomes the key to promote knowledge and culture.

The Festival attracts a large and heterogeneous public, made of cinemagoers and keens on cinema, as well as tourists visiting Bergamo and its beauties.

1400 movies by 61 Countries, 500 of which in the last edition

13 millions contacts among TV and radio stations, websites, press and public.

Austria, Australia, Cuba, Finlan, Venezuela, Georgia, Canada, Brazil, Bosnia Erzegovina, Moldovian Republic, Russia, Island, Cinese Popular  Republic, Czech Republic, Colombia, Slovakia, Poland, Indonesia.

 

Awards and Jury

The Selection Committee chooses the films for both the competitions.

The Jury, made of visual arts specialists and cinema critics, examines the works and establishes the winners.

In the last 2 editions, Vittorio Sgarbi was the president of the Jury.

The winners will be given a precious sculpture by the goldsmith Antonino Rando.

 

Competitions and side events

Cinema d'Arte: short, medium length, features on issues and imagines regarding the world of Arts can take part to the competition: from painting to cinema, from sculpture to dance, from architecture to theatre. The artistic expressions are used to recall an era, to construct a psychological or custom testimony, to explain the world of an artist, to fix an aesthetic and critical portrait.

Sottoventi: the competition is on a free subject, except the art's subject whose there is the competition Cinema d'Arte. Films have to last maximum 20 minutes.

 

Not in the official competition movies are shown within the side events that enrich the Festival calendar.  Guests coming from the world of culture in general (from art to theatre, from cinema to music) introduce these screenings.

 

Values

Culture: all the screenings, the side events, the workshops and the debates apply the "free culture" formula, that allows free entrance to all the Festival events.

Internationality: competitors from all over the world, guest and twin Countries, the presence of foreign authorities.

Show: famous guests, great events.

People: the directors and the public, made of specialists and not, of critics and keen on cinema.
