55th International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg ends successfully

The 55th International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg has ended this weekend awarding the Main Award of Mannheim-Heidelberg and several further prizes.
„With persistence and consistency the Newcomer festival has conquered the second position after the Filmfestival Berlin“, said Dr. Michael Kötz, festival director and artistic director since 15 years, at the closing press conference in Mannheim. This position is not surprising from an international perspective as for many years the festival has been listed as one of the 40 most important film festivals worldwide. Many comments from industry professionals and the media reveal that the International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg is the second most important German film festival after the Berlinale. In particular the festival’s unique and consistent profile as a premieres’ festival of newcomer films has strengthend this position.

1000 professionals attended the festival which was officially opened by the world premiere of Michael Schorr’s „Schroeder’s Wondeful World“. Despite its high professional standard, the 55th International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg confirmed its status as a real audience festival with 60.000 visitors.
Aleksandr Sokurov was awarded the Master of Cinema Award at a festive gala.

The MANNHEIM MEETINGS took place for the 10th time during the festival. The event is considered to be one of the four most important coproduction markets worldwide. 63 projects from 39 countries were negotiated in 1000 business meetings. There are already first results:
The production company Filmkombinat will cooperate with Leopold Lummerstorfer on his project „Solange der Vorrat reicht / While Stocks Last“. The Turkish-Italian directors Guillaume Giovanotti and Cagla Zencirci, living in France, have already secured 20 percent of their budget through ther Hungarian film production company Inforg Studio. The partners will shoot the road movie „Tu mera dil, tu meri jaan / You are my heart, you are my soul“in Pakistan.

Mikko Kuparinen.”
