3rd Festival of European Film Smiles
Mladá Boleslav (10.-17.9.2005)
Festival of European Film Smiles was held for the very first time in 2003. It is a contest show of new film comedies from Czech as well as foreign production. The main purpose of the festival is to popularize European comic production that is still in spite of its quality and diversity not efficient in competing with American production.
Other goal of our Festival is, in cooperation with Škoda Auto a.s. company (General Partner of the Festival) to enrich cultural as well as social life of this city, that is successfully developing center of the Central Bohemian region.
Center of all events will be again the Škoda Auto Museum in Mladá Boleslav. Thanks to helpful approach of European Delegation in the Czech Republic, that appreciated the idea of founding such a Festival in the country with a long and famous tradition of film comedies, we were allowed to integrate the EU-logo into our festival symbol.
The Festival is taking place under the auspices of Ministry of Culture and the City of Mladá Boleslav.
Contest
The film program of the festival consists of two contests: the contest of new Czech comedies, which winner automatically qualifies for the main competition of the European full- length comedies; however every single European cinematography can be represented only by one title. Film must have been shot in the period corresponding with the status of the festival.
The contest commission lead by the Programme Director Jan Jurka decides about the acceptance of films to the competition.
Jury
About the award for the films decides the international jury headed by Czech film director Dušan Klein. The members of this year’s jury are:

Andrej Hryc- Actor and Entrepreneur
For the festival contest were nominated:
a) 6 full- length films for the Czech section
b) 8 full- length films + the 1 winner of the Czech competition will compete in the Section of European comedies.

There will be a special non-competitive pre-view of a new Czech “black comedy” Doblba! directed by Petr Vachler.

• Special prize of the director of Festival
• Prize of the Mayor
• Škoda Auto prize
Beyond this there is also the Prize of audience that will be awarded to that film that will be most successful according to onlooker’s voting. This prize can win either Czech or foreign film. One onlooker will get a chance to be selected by lot and have a Škoda car for his/ her personal use for one month for free.
Graphic design of the prize as well as the logo and festival sonnet are work of art designer Boris Masník.
Associated program
Integral part of the festival is a number of social as well as cultural events, among others: exhibition of film photographs taken by Jan Kuděla in the exhibition hall Templ in Mladá Boleslav, concerts, giving autographs of famous personalities ets. Most film projections will be accompanied by their film makers, producers and actors. The festival opening and ending will be followed by special program at the representative space of the Customer cener of Škoda Auto.
Entrance fee
Unified fee for all festival projections is 1 Euro
The Festival is headed by director Jan Kuděla, executive producer is Dušan Walter, Jan Hladký is in charge of PR and promotion, the architects of scenes are František Svoboda and Michael Dáňa President of the Festival
Honorary function of the Festival´s president is specific in a way that every year there is a different president of the Festival. The first president ouf our Festival was popular Czech actress Jiřina Bohdalová. The last year exercise this honorary function popular Slovak actor Marián Labuda. This year´s president will be one of the most popular personalities of Czech film humor: Lubomír Lipský.
