38th Hungarian Film Week opens with Pál Sándor’s Noah’s Ark
The traditional showcase of the newest Hungarian film production, the 38th Hungarian Film Week will be held on January 30 – February 6, 2007, in Budapest.
For the first time in the history of the festival, a selection committee decided about the feature competition line-up which includes 18 movies.
Pál Sándor’s new feature, Noah’s Ark will open the 38th Hungarian Film Week on January 30 in Budapest.
Pál Sándor (A Strange Role, Berlin: Silver Bear, 1977, Daniel Takes a Train, Cannes: FIPRESCI Prize, 1983) new movie is starring Dezső Garas and Ferenc Kállai, legendary actors of the Hungarian cinema.
The 38th Hungarian Film Week, the traditional showcase of the Hungarian film production of the year offers a good opportunity to have an idea of the trends of the Magyar cinematography, to meet filmmakers and professionals of the industry and to discover new talents as well.
The festival will be held in Mammut multiplex and the Millennium Center in the heart of Budapest. As in the previous years, the first two days of the festival will be devoted to the documentary production. Altogether 40 documentaries, 9 scientific documentaries and 30 shorts and experimental films will be in the competition programs.
For the first time in the history of the Hungarian Film Week, a selection committee decided about the feature competition line-up which includes 18 movies. As for talent spot, the Film Week will premiere four first films: a gypsy story Happy New Life, the experimental Dreamhunting, the road movie Konec and Miscalculation based on Imre Kertész’s short story. The information program will show another 20 Hungarian feature films produced this year.
In accordance with previous years’ tradition, besides the prizes of the jury, the foreign critics’ Gene Moskowitz Award will be handed over to the best feature film on 6th February, at the 38th Hungarian Film Week’s closing ceremony.
