2013 CMU Film Festival is International in Scope
MT. PLEASANT-- This year’s Central Michigan University International Film Festival will present a variety of options for adventurous film watchers in February. The offerings will be over two weekends and showcased at the Park Library Auditorium on campus and Celebration! Cinema, 4395 E. Pickard, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858.
The 2013 CMIFF is sponsored and organized by the CMU School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts and the CMU Student Film Society. The lineup is sprinkled with something for most film tastes. The schedule includes five engaging short subjects, a feature length documentary made in Michigan, another documentary shot primarily at the South Pole, an off-beat comedy from Hawaii, an Academy Award winner from 2012 and fourteen other feature-length comedies, dramas and documentaries and a romantic film for Valentine’s Day.
Tickets are available in advance and a reduced price for multiple admissions will be available in a 10 ticket booklet.
The laugh-out loud, award-winning Hawaiian comedy “Get A Job” screens on Friday, February 9th at 4:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, February 16th at 6:50 p.m. in the Park Library Auditorium. Writer/Director Brian Kohne, a Michigan native living on Maui, assembled a world-class cast of entertainers and musicians known throughout the Pacific to produce Hawaii’s first major motion picture comedy. The two leads, Willie K and Eric Gilliom, evoke the classic comedy duos such as Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Kohne also produced the robust soundtrack.
After the screenings of “Get A Job”, well-travelled media professional Raymond Rolak will conduct a Q&A. As associate producer, Rolak was on-set in the islands and will share the unique distribution and marketing journey of “Get A Job.” “For the independent needing to maximize production values on a low budget, “Get A Job” is a classic case-study,” says Rolak. “From the barter of products, locations, services and equipment, the team-based festival strategies employed by the production, and the advance creation and acquisition of music, this gem from the islands bursts with ingenuity, energy, and real-world lessons for the student filmmaker.”
On Saturday, February 16th at 3:15 p.m. in the Park Library Auditorium, the South Pole story “No Horizon Anymore” screens. Director Keith Reimink will conduct a Q&A afterwards.
Dr. Mark Poindexter, Professor of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts at CMU, has highlighted a Valentine’s Day selection, the French comedy, “Romantics Anonymous” on Thursday, February 14th at 8: 00 & 9:45 p.m. at the Park Library Auditorium.
