19th Berlin Teddy Awards: the Winners

19th TEDDY Awards 2005 – The Winners

The nine members of this international jury – organisers of queer and other film festivals – view films within the framework of all programs of the Berlinale which have queer context.

Three films are nominated for each category and one receives a TEDDY for best feature film, best short film and best documentary/essay film, each with a cash award of € 3,000.

Members of the Jury:

Carla Despineux (Germany), João Ferreira (Portugal), Michael Kutza (USA), Doris Ng (Netherlands), Christine Rüffert (Germany), Ales Rumpel (Czech Republic), Bird Runningwater (USA), Shane Smith (Canada) and Gabriela Waisman (Argentinia).

The TEDDY Jury nominated the following films for Best Feature Film:
CRUSTACÉS ET COQUILLAGES by Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau
TRANSAMERICA by Duncan Tucker
UN AÑO SIN AMOR by Anahí Berneri

The TEDDY for the Best Feature Film endowed with 3,000- €, donated by the TEDDY Foundation with the support of various donors from the Berlin gay/lesbian community goes to
UN AÑO SIN AMOR by Anahí Berneri
For an uncompromising densely textured portrayal of one man dealing with loneliness and AIDS that will challenge audiences.

The TEDDY Jury nominated the following films for Best Documentary Film:

BASED ON A TRUE STORY by Walter Stokman
GEORGE MICHAEL – A DIFFERENT STORY by Southan Morris
KATZENBALL by Veronika Minder

The TEDDY for the Best Documentary Film endowed with 3,000- €, donated by elledorado e. V., Berlin goes to
KATZENBALL by Veronika Minder
For its sensitive, humorous unveiling of Swiss lesbian history, seamlessly combining rare archival footage and entertaining personal histories from women with an exceptional lust for life.

The TEDDY Jury nominated the following films for the Best Short Film:

HOI MAYA by Claudia Lorenz
THE INTERVENTION by Jay Duplass
TRANSIENT by Craig Boreham

The TEDDY for the Best Short Film endowed with 3,000- €, donated by the brewery Berliner Pilsener and the TEDDY foundation goes to:
THE INTERVENTION by Jay Duplass
For a perplexing and fresh take on outing told with simplicity and immediacy.

SIEGESSÄULE Reader’s Jury Award
This jury is comprised of seven readers of the SIEGESSÄULE, Berlin's queer magazine. It views films from all sections of the festival dealing with queer topics.

The prize includes a cash award of € 1,000.

This year's SIEGESSÄULE Reader's Jury awards its prize to
TRANSAMERICA by Duncan Tucker
