To kick start ÉCU’s new theme for 2011 we introduce you to Ellen Dumbadze,
newest addition to the ÉCU staff. In her in interview with Ana (our “creative
content” intern) she tells us about her origins, her expectations, and her
hands

Ana: Hey Ellen, funny that we should meet at ÉCU! Tell me, where are you from?

Ellen: Hi, I am from Georgia – the country not the state! I was born
in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, one of the most fascinating places
in the world.

A: Standard question: How would you describe indie cinema in your country?

E: Since film making in Georgia is undergoing a rebirth, people of all
ages are getting more and more interested in film making. This process
takes time, but I am happy that filmmakers have been very active over
the past years. I am proud for being able to bring Georgian independent
movies into ÉCU and share it with everybody.

A: I know you went to AUP (The American University of Paris) like I still do, but what did you study?

E: In AUP I studied Global Communications and Film Studies. Besides
my studies, AUP gave me the opportunity to meet people from all over the
world. Everywhere I go, I bump into AUP students, and of course ÉCU was
not an exception. The ÉCU team is very international as well, which
makes the work even more interesting and creative.

A: How did you get to know ÉCU?

E: I got to know about ÉCU through AUP. I was looking for an internship and found exactly what I was searching for!

A: Tell me about your ÉCU experience so far…

E: I started my internship very recently at ÉCU, and I’m loving it
already! It is impossible not to fall in love with the amazing
environment and interesting people that work here. The first day I
stepped foot in ÉCU, for my internship interview, I understood that I
would gain an extraordinary experience here.

A: What do you expect to take away from working with ÉCU?

E: I am looking forward to the experience ÉCU is going to grant me.
It’s the first time I’m working in a place where I can combine my
studies together with my passion for film. ÉCU is driving me to new
experiences that I cannot wait to discover!

A: Let me be creepy and ask you about your hands: what’s their principal function in your work?

E: My hands do millions of things that help me to communicate, create and help.

A: Any secrets that you’d like to share on how to take good care of your hands?

E: Keep them busy!

A: Finally, the reality check question: where do you think you’ll be in 5 years?

E: I don’t believe in reality.

Ana interroge Ellen sur son expérience de stagiaire à ÉCU

Ellen Dumbadze est la dernière recrue de l’équipe d’ÉCU. Dans un
entretien avec Ana, notre stagiaire chargée du creative content, elle
nous parle de ses origines, ses attentes et ses mains.

Ana : Salut Ellen, c’est drôle qu’on se rencontre à ÉCU ! Dis-moi, d’où viens-tu ?

Ellen : Salut, je viens de la Géorgie, le pays, pas l’État ! Je suis
née dans la capitale, Tbilissi, l’une des villes les plus merveilleuses
au monde.

A : Question classique : Comment décrirais-tu le cinéma indépendant dans ton pays ?

E : Comme le cinéma en Géorgie connaît un renouveau, les gens de tous
âges s’intéressent de plus en plus à la réalisation. Le processus prend
du temps, mais je suis contente de voir que les réalisateurs sont très
actifs depuis quelques années. Je suis fière de pouvoir apporter des
films indépendants géorgiens à ÉCU et de les partager avec tout le
monde.

A : On m’a appris que tu avais été à AUP (The American
University of Paris), comme c’est mon cas actuellement. Qu’y as-tu
étudié ?

E : À AUP, j’ai fait des études de Communication et Cinéma. En plus
des études, AUP m’a permis de rencontrer des gens du monde entier.
Partout où je vais, je tombe sur des anciens élèves d’AUP, et ÉCU n’a
pas fait exception à la règle. L’équipe d’ÉCU est très cosmopolite elle
aussi, ce qui rend le travail là-bas d’autant plus intéressant et
créatif.

A : Comment as-tu entendu parler d’ÉCU?

E : J’ai entendu parler d’ÉCU par l’intermédiaire d’AUP. Je
recherchais un stage, et j’ai trouvé exactement ce dont j’avais besoin !

A : Parle-moi de ton expérience à ÉCU …

E : J’ai commencé mon stage à ÉCU très récemment, et j’adore ça ! Il
est impossible de ne pas tomber amoureux d’un cadre aussi impressionnant
et des gens passionnants qui y travaillent. La première fois que j’ai
mis les pieds à ÉCU, pour mon entretien, j’ai compris que j’allais y
vivre une expérience extraordinaire.

A : Qu’espères-tu tirer de ton travail à ÉCU ?

E : J’ai hâte de voir ce qu’ÉCU va m’apporter. C’est la première fois
que je travaille dans un endroit où je peux conjuguer mes études et ma
passion pour le cinéma. ÉCU m’amène vers de nouvelles expériences que je
suis impatiente de découvrir !

A : Laisse-moi te poser une question flippante à propos de tes mains : quelle est leur principale fonction dans ton travail ?

E : Mes mains font des millions de choses qui m’aident à communiquer, créer et aider.

A : Des secrets à nous faire partager pour prendre soin de ses mains ?

E : Gardez-les occupées !

A : Pour finir, une question pour nous ramener à la réalité : où te vois-tu dans 5 ans ?

E : Je ne crois pas à la réalité.
