European Premieres at ÉCU 2012!ÉCU 2012 is hosting a huge number of films from all over the world and we are lucky enough to be the stage for several films making their European debut! So not only will cinemas full with ÉCU audience members be witnessing these talented works but it is just the beginning for these filmmakers and their films. The ÉCU European Independent Film Festival does not take this responsibility lightly and is hard at work making sure this festival is going to be the best one yet. With a range of awards up for offer at the festival, it will be a great chance for filmmakers to see their films on a big stage for the first time! We are happy to be the start of the journey for these films and hope that we begin their experience the best we can here in Paris! Check out the five films that will be celebrating their premiere with us… Rugged Wilderness and Mountain Man No More – Dropping Feathers, Music Video (Director: Egil Pedersen) “Rugged Wilderness and Mountain Man No More – Dropping Feathers” is a film about 5 people born with asymmetrical faces and have large deviations from what is considered to be normal and beautiful. When these people leave their homes they hide their faces behind masks, but one woman wants to make a change. This film captures the endearing nature of these people and the ability of one person to strive to make a change, refusing to let others dictate who she is. http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/ruggedwildernessmountainmannomo...
- The Telegram Man, Non-European Dramatic Short (Director: James Francis Khehtie “The Telegram Man” is a film about the long years of World War II when Australia’s small farming communities paid a terrible price. In the rural towns of New South Wales, one family each week discovered that their son or husband or brother or father would not be coming home. In the throes of such grief, one seldom considers the man who delivers the news. This film is touching and emphatic and a deep portrayal of human character. http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/telegrammanthe_jameskhehtie_ecu... - Trace of Light, Student Film (Director: Christina Ruettinger, Christoph Kirchner) “Trace of Light” is a journey into the extraordinary work and life of photographer Victoria Proebstel who spent her childhood at one of the most remote and beautiful places in the world: a lighthouse at New Zealand’s North Island. The film introduces the background and experiences of one woman and the influence it has had to make her the person she is today, set against a captivating landscape. http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/traceoflight_christinaruettinge... - With No One in the World, Student Film (Director: Tal Haring) “With No One in the World” features Michael, running away from the cops and bleeding to death, he walks into a local pub hoping to stay there until the heat wears off. A meeting with the pub’s depressed waitress, Maya, forces Michael to hide his injuries and past. As the night progresses and the couple open up to each other more and more, Michael’s wounds begin to grow fatal without Maya ever noticing a thing – giving us a sad tale about love, relationships and how little we know about the people around us. http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/withnooneintheworld_talharing_e... - Women and Children, European Dramatic Feature (Director: Daniel Mitelpunkt) “Women and Children” is a tale of a flawed man facing up to the possibility of a dead-end future and a seriously messy past. This film is a beautiful presentation of human spirit and the value of perseverance. http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/womenandchildren_danielmitelpun... 27.03.2012 | ÉCU-The European Independent Film Festival's blog Cat. : 2012 Australia Christina Ruettinger Christoph Kirchner Contact Details Daniel Mitelpunkt debut Director Dramatic Feature Dramatic Short ecu Écu Entertainment Entertainment europe european festival film Film Film festival Film genres first http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/ruggedwildernessmountainmannomo http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/telegrammanthe_jameskhehtie_ecu http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/traceoflight_christinaruettinge http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/withnooneintheworld_talharing_e http://ecu.festivalgenius.com/2012/films/womenandchildren_danielmitelpun Human Interest Human Interest Humanities Independent film James Francis Khehtie Maya New South Wales New Zealand official paris Paris Person Career Photographer Premiere sélection South Wales Tal Haring The ÉCU European Independent Film Festival Victoria Proebstel waitress FILM

(ECU)
Scott Hillier, Founder and President of ÉCU - The European Independent Film Festival
Scott Hillier is a director, cinematographer, and screenwriter, based in Paris, France. In the last 20 years, Hillier has gained international recognition from his strong and incredible cinematography, editing, writing, producing and directing portfolio in both the television and film industries.
Scott began his career in the television industry in Australia. In 1988, he moved to London getting a job with the BBC who then set him to Baghdad. This opportunity led him to 10 years of traveling around world for the BBC, mainly in war zones like Somalia, Bosnia, Tchetcheynia, Kashmir, and Lebanon. After a near fatal encounter with a Russian bomber in Tchechnyia, Hillier gave up his war coverage and began in a new direction.
He moved to New York City in 1998. He directed and photographed eight one-hour documentaries for National Geographic and The Discovery Channel. Based on his war knowledge and experience, Hillier wrote and directed a short film titled, “Behind the Eyes of War!" The film was awarded “Best Short Dramatic Film” at the New York Independent Film and TV Festival in 1999. From that he served as Supervising Producer and Director for the critically acclaimed CBS 42 part reality series, "The Bravest” in 2002 and wrote and directed a stage play called, "Deadman’s Mai l," which ran at Le Théâtre du Moulin de la Galette in Paris during the summer of 2004. He then became the Director of Photography on a documentary titled, “Twin Towers." This was yet another life changing experience for Hillier. The riveting documentary won an Academy Award for "Best Documentary Short Subject" in 2003. In 2004, Hillier changed continents again, spending three months in Ethiopia. He produced “Worlds Apart,” a pilot for ABC America / True Entertainment / Endemol. As you can see, Hillier was and is always in constant movement and enjoys working in a number of diverse creative areas including documentaries, music videos, commercials, feature and short films.
Scott studied film at New York University and The London Film and Television School. He also studied literary non-fiction writing at Columbia University. Hillier's regular clients include the BBC, Microsoft, ABC, PBS and National Geographic. Between filming assignments, he used to teach film, a Masters Degree course in Screenwriting at the Eicar International Film School in Paris, France and journalism at the Formation des Journalistes Français in Paris, France.
