It Hurts so Much (2017)
The crowd-pleasing Dutch documentary It hurts so much, which premiered at IFFR in January 2017 where it was pipped into second place for the Warsteiner Audience Award just after Moonlight, is directed by successful Dutch novelist Heleen van Royen and charts a year spent with her aging mother who suffers from vascular dementia.
The result is an open, heartwarming and heart-rending portrait of a daughter and a woman in the autumn of her life. Since it has its domestic theatrical release, more than 30,000 admissions have been reached. Heleen is traveling throughout the whole country to have Q&A's and there she meets audience who has a similar family experience or work in health care taking care of people who suffer from dementia. People are very touched by the way Heleen has taken on caring for her mother and the way she has made this beautiful portrait.

When his free-spirited mother Gladys summons the family to her guesthouse in Surinam for Christmas and an important announcement, Axel, his wife and her sister Mirna reluctantly make the journey. They have barely arrived when the situation gets completely out of hand, with his brother Virgil winding him up and his daughter Wonnie, who is doing an internship in Paramaribo, admitting that she is pregnant .

STORM Letter of Fire (2017)
Takes place against the background of the late Middle Ages, particularly the 16th century reformation, when freedom of speech was under threat in Europe. Thanks in part to the rise of the printing press, this led to a dangerous struggle for power and significant political, religious, economic and social changes. For the first time, it became possible for people to spread their ideas on a large scale, comparable to the rise of social media in our time. The story is set in Antwerp and t's a more than 6 million Euro production.
12-year-old Storm is caught up in an exciting adventure when his father Klaas (Yorick van Wageningen - The Girl with the dragon Tatoo, Blackhat, 47 Ronin) uses his printing business to print secretly forbidden texts. With an original Luther letter in which the Catholic Church got challenged, Storm and his friend Marieke embark on a fearless fight for freedom.
The film has been directed by Dennis Bots and is scripted by Karen van Holst Pellekaan - the team behind Cool Kids Don't Cryand Secrets of War.
