HAF presents WIP Lab projects at Cannes 2018

Cannes is around the corner! Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) will take part in the “Goes to Cannes” program the second year. We would like to cordially invite you to attend the HAF Goes to Cannes screening to be held at Marché du Film, Festival de Cannes.

Selected from HAF 2018’s Work-in-Progress Lab, five projects currently in post-production will be showcased in this splendid occasion, looking for post-production funds, sales agents, buyers, distributors and festival screenings. Film extracts of the selection will be presented at the screening.

1. The Man Who Surprised Everyone | Russia, France, Estonia

Director: Natalya Merkulova, Alexey Chupov

Producer: Katia Filippova

“The man who surprised everyone” is a parable for the subordination of the ordinary Russian man to death, which he is trying to deceive. This parable is told in a realistic manner. In a far away Siberian village, a man decides to change his sex as a desperate attempt to cure his illness.

2. The Pencil | Russia

Director: Natalya Nazarova

Producer: Anastasia Lukovnikova

A woman who has spent her life in the shadows of her artist husband, follows him to the northern province of Russia after he is arrested, where her urge to bring change leads to a conflict with a local gang leader.

3. Sister | Bulgaria

Director: Svetla Tsotsorkova

Producer: Svetoslav Ovtcharov

The lie of a teenage girl destroys the world of her elder sister. Struggling to fix what she has done, she finds out the truth about their mother.

4. The Sorcerer | Panama

Director: Félix Guardia

Producer: Tomás Cortés-Rosselot

An animation inspired by the artwork by the Panamanian artist Julio Zachrisson. A wild journey of a flying bull through Julio Zachrisson's absurd and surrealist universe.

5. Still Human | Hong Kong

Director: Oliver Chan Siu-kuen

Producer: Fruit Chan

Produced by the well-known Director Fruit Chan, Still Human is a story of a paralyzed and hopeless man meeting his new Filipino domestic worker who has put her dreams on hold; together, they are going to learn what to do with life.
