Global Film Showcase at Russian Pavilion

The Global Film Showcase was held at the Russian Pavilion today. In the panel was Katya Mtsitouridze, Jamie Lundy, Dena Rassam, and Allison Melody. They each had a chance to discuss their individual careers and projects they were working on.

Through Jamie Lundy’s new film, set during World War II, he “wants it to not only be a great film but an educational one” because he believes “the heart of movies has been lost.”

 Dema Rassam’s film Tattoo shoes the strict rules that are restricting the lives of young people in Iran in tattoos. She described how it was difficult because she can’t distribute this film in Iran because the government wouldn’t allow it.  

After Allison Melody’s parents died of cancer, she decided to learn about nutrition and how the body can heal itself through diet. So she is currently creating a documentary on that subject as well as hosting her own podcast. 

Katya Mtsitouridze discussed how social media changed the film industry, and more specifically distribution. With social media, it can open a lot of doors and can bring together your audience. She also discussed how the company Roskino gives opportunities to Russian filmmakers.
