Mad Max Review

“Mad Max” Immediately hits the audience with heavy social commentary, assuring the audience knows that this is not going to be your average blockbuster action flick. 

"I don't want to speak for George but what I took from all the Mad Max films is it was very grounded with what a lot of scholars talk about with globalization and global warming, leadership getting out of hand and the control of people,” Charlize Theron said in the “Mad Max” press conference yesterday.

The first 3 minutes practically lectures the audience about the dangers of ignoring the environment, with global warming, peak oil, and water shortage being the forefront of the opening. Then out of nowhere George Miller ignites a wildfire that continues to grow out of control the rest of the way. 

Some action movies get repetitive with their action sequences but this film comes with a totally new and creative way to excite the audience each and every frame. It will bounce from crazed road warriors throwing exploding spheres that blow up porcupine war tanks to a woman giving berth amidst the heat of the chase. If anything this movie was nothing I had ever seen before, totally original. 

Not to mention, this film was chalk full of girl power. From what I gathered from the press conference it didn’t purposely have a feminist agenda. George Miller even stated that “Initially there was no feminist agenda that was the story it was meant to be an extended chase.” But, without giving too much away, Charlize Theron makes Tom Hardy look like a total pussy. I also cannot think of any movie I’ve seen before where pregnant ladies are wielding flamethrowers and getting into fist fights with body building zombies. 

When this movie hits theaters, or if you are lucky enough to be attending the festival this movie is a must see. I literally laughed, cried and cheered throughout the film and it has components to it that will please any crowd.
