Short Film Corner

For the past three years the Cannes Film Festival has officially included the Short Film Corner, which litterally takes up an entire corner of the rez-de-chaussé of the Marché du Film. This year there are 930 short films representing 73 different countries, ranging in all types of genres including drama, comedy, documentary, animation, family, action/adventure, science-fiction, thriller, musical, romance, erotic, historical...and even more that can't quite be categorized. The films range from anywhere between 1 and 30+ minutes in length, mostly falling somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes. With over 1,000 young and upcoming directors and producers, the Short Film Corner provides a great opportunity to network with other producers in the industry in hopes of making the big step towards the big screen.

Each year the corner adapts and changes in order to do the best it can to expose these films to as many people as possible. In addition to having offical screenings throughout the Palais, they have their own private screening room which seats about 6 people in front of a large screen, providing an familial and intimate setting for directors to share their work with their friends. Didn't get a chance to catch a screening, and don't know any of the film creators? Not to worry; since this year the Short Film Corner advances into the age of computers, as they now have about a dozen computer screens for individual viewing purposes of all the submitted short films on database, available to anyone with a Marché du Film badge.

This convienient accessiblity makes it easier for other people in the Market to view films according to their schedual, allowing the Short Film Directors' work to be exposed to a larger audience, making everyone happy.
