Burgas Film Festival


Burgas International Film Festival is one of the most important Bulgarian film festivals. For the last five years, the month of July has become a regular fixture for thousands of art cinema lovers coming from all over the globe.

All events are free and open to public.

The festival is considered as a prestigious cultural event on a both national and international scale. It is a long awaited gathering for those who appreciate quality movie productions and for those who are eager to discover new authors, productions and tendencies in the cinema universe.

Burgas International Film Festival 2021

With huge interest of the audience, a lot of guests and many side events the sixth edition of Burgas International Film Festival has passed. Yesterday during the last evening the winners were announced. The jury ( Kamen Kalev, Martina Apostolova, Kaloyan Bozhilov, Deben Van Dam and Atanas Cholakov) gave the big prize “Danny Lerner Award” to the movie “Mighty flash” and the director Ainhoa Rodríguez. In the short movie categories gave the prizes to “Muse” by Svilen Slavov for best Bulgarian short and “I am afraid to forget your face” by Sameh Alaa for best international short. 

The choice of the youth jury went to “Oasis” by Ivan Ikic and the audience selected the Indian movie “Pebbles”. Two special mentions in the shorts has been awarded too: “The big Istanbul depression” for the acting of Nazlı Bulum, the other mention went to the director Vanya Boycheva and her “Natasha’s dream”.

During the eight evenings of the festival the audience met directors, actors, producers who works all over the world. The side events attracted visitors from all ages. A special event was the exhibition of “Vij!” magazine in the gallery “Georgi Baev”. For the first time this year there were cinema tours, which permitted to the visitors to see emblematic cinema locations in Burgas. The preparation for the next year is on the move.
