Visiting the Toronto International Film Festival
The 45th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF2020) has just been concluded. And it has been an exciting year, to say the least! The prestigious festival is considered to be one of the most important events in modern cinema, and the winner of the annual People’s Choice Awards commonly continues on to be nominated for and often win Best Picture at the Oscars. This year’s People’s Choice winner, “Nomadland”, is a beautiful drama about a woman in her 60’s who embarks on a journey as a van-nomad through the American West, after losing everything in the great recession. Other smash hits at the TIFF2020 included “One Night in Miami”, “Pieces of a Woman”, “Limbo” and “Another Round”.
This year's festival was officially held between September 10th and 19th with very limited in-person attendance and strict social distancing rules due to the global pandemic. For this reason, the festival offered virtual tickets for viewing the films on their online platform, which technically increased the duration of the festival by 48 hours, concluding it on the 21st.
We are certain that the festival will return even stronger in 2021, and if you are planning to be there, you should start making your arrangements straight away!

Remember that the TIFF is one of the most popular events for film fans worldwide; make sure to get your tickets and hotel room in advance. It is also recommended to buy a ticket package instead of a single ticket, this way you are able to add spontaneous and unexpected titles to your viewings as you plan your time. This brings us to the next point; expect a very tight schedule. There is an abundance of films, and you may even want to plan every viewing in advance to make sure you don’t miss out. If you want to avoid the crowds, book screenings in the mid-late week, as most people want to brag about having been at the premieres. And make sure not to overvalue the blockbusters.
