Things you’ll need if you’re going to a European festival this year

Each year there are hundreds of festivals in Europe that are dedicated to art and culture from listening to music at V festival in England to smashing tomatoes at La Tomatina in Spain. There are all types of festivals to check out in lots of different countries and here is a list of things you will need to survive them.

Important Documents

First of all if you’re travelling abroad to go to a festival you will need to make sure you have an in-date European Health Card and a valid Passport (you can get your EHIC cards online here), and of course make sure you have your plane tickets- as you won’t be getting very far without any of those key documents. To get into the festival you will need your festival ticket and some form of ID. As in some cases like Glastonbury Festival they won’t let you in if your ID doesn’t match the name on the ticket.

Tech

When it comes to what tech to bring to a festival it is probably a good idea to leave your normal expensive smartphone at home unless you have insurance and have a fancy gadget that allows you to charge it like a solar panelled phone case. If you choose to leave your smartphone at home bring a camera to record and take pictures of all the memories that you will create at the festival. That way you will still be able to upload your photos onto social networking sites - you will just have to wait until you’re back a t home to do so. It’s best to dig out an old phone with a battery that lasts for days to keep in contact with friends and family while you’re away.

Clothes

The weather in Europe can be pretty unpredictable even in the summer time. It’s entirely up to you what you pack but pack things you don’t mind getting messy and muddy. It’s a good idea to pack wellies or shoes that can easily be washed as by the end of the festival they will be caked in mud.  A rain coat is a must have as umbrellas are just too annoying to and impractical when it comes to crowds- which there will be loads of at any festival. Raincoats are also light weight, dry fast and are perfect to have if it’s sunny one day and then pours it down the next. Fancy dress can make a festival as festivals are a rare thing where anything goes, in most cases the wackier you look the better.

Essentials

Wet wipes are a life saver when it comes to festivals. The ques for the showers will be never ending. If you are lucky enough to finally get to the front of the que the state of the showers may terrify you so this where your new best friends wet wipes will come in handy. If you’re going to a festival where there is guaranteed sun like the Boom Festival in Portugal you will need sun tan lotion to protect yourself in the sun and sunglasses so you can see the acts performing at the festival.
