All In: The Poker Movie All In was directed by Douglas Tirola. Though it was released in 2009, it explores the boom that poker experienced in the early 2000s. As you watch, you will be taken from the dingy backrooms where poker was at that moment and instead be taken on a journey that saw it rise to be set on the track that includes the massive tournaments that we see nowadays. In particular, it is focused around the 2003 Main Event, which saw an epic win from Chris Moneymaker. There are interviews with top players like Phill Hellmuth and Antonio Esfandiari, and even celebrity actor Matt Damon. In addition to all of this, there are discussions about how online poker contributed to the poker boom, and how it became so popular on TV. If you want to know more about the ins and outs of the game, you will find it here. Kid Poker Daniel Negreanu is one of the most well-known poker players of the moment. In addition to having collected several WSOP bracelets and titles from poker tours all over the world, he is a pro player for ggpoker.com and has his own lessons through the teaching platform Masterclass where people can learn the tips and tricks he has picked up over the years. The documentary Kid Poker charts his rise to glory, from his roots to his attempts to hit the main circuits of Vegas and beyond. This includes his setbacks and some of the times that he fumbled as a player. If you want a real look at a top poker player’s rise to fame and fortune, you will find it here. Poker Queens Poker is not just a man’s game, but it can sometimes feel like the achievements of its female players are overlooked. Poker Queens, directed by Sandra Mohr, highlights some of the many amazing women who have chosen to play this game. It focuses not just on the big names, but also on some of the smaller ones who don’t always capture the limelight, and it makes for a great chronicle of the history of women’s ties to the game. There are interviews with Jennifer Tilly, Kristen Bicknell, Maria Ho, and Barbara Enright to name just a few. If you want an honest and open look at some of the ways women are treated in the poker industry compared to men, you will find it here! These are three documentaries that can teach you so much about the world of poker if you are willing to learn. Are they going to teach you when to make the right play, and when you should bluff? Of course not, but they do have something to offer still. The documentary format allows the viewers to get up close and personal with the subject matter. When it comes to poker, this means that everything can be laid bare, and you get to see the game how it ultimately functions – maybe from an angle that you had not considered before. If you are willing to learn from this, you could gain some insights into the game that will serve you very well in the future.
