How Streaming is Changing Entertainment Consumption

How we entertain ourselves has evolved. One moment we were hunting to survive, next we are playing cards and finally, we are watching movies and binging on TV shows. However, it is not just what we do to keep us entertained that has changed throughout time. How we access entertainment has changed too.

Once upon a time, there were only a handful of TV channels and much fewer box office releases. This developed into cable TV with hundreds of channels, shows and movies at our fingertips – which does remain popular. Yet, there has been another shift with more people tending to use streaming to stay entertained. This sort of streaming is not just popular in motion picture entertainment either. Anywhere and everywhere you can see streaming making a name for itself, and this especially true in the gaming where it is already the norm to see players live stream when playing for others to enjoy.

So it is quite common, for example, to have keen gamers looking in on their favourite players during an eSports tournament. However, there are other areas of the industry where we have some way to go, as in the case of online casino operators. mFortune casino is typical of several established brands who are yet to really incorporate streaming in a big way, but we suspect this is will change sooner rather than later.

We will now take a deeper look into how streaming is changing the way we consume entertainment.

Why Is Streaming So Popular?

Streaming is so popular because it is convenient and fits with the modern ways of living. In the past, if you wanted to watch a show while you were out with friends or at work, you would have to record the show. This was made easier with cable television services that allowed you to record shows directly to your in-home box, rather than adding a VCR. Streaming bypasses all of these issues by simply allowing you to watch shows and movies at any moment you wish. This occurs on channels’ websites where shows are uploaded or on the biggest and most successful streaming platform of all, Netflix.

Netflix, The Trend Setters

Netflix may not have been the first platform to offer a service where users could stream forms of entertainment directly to their browser, but they sure are the most successful. The platform has afforded millions with excellent entertainment on demand, changed the dictionary – and gave a whole other meaning to the word “chill”. Pop culture references aside, they have helped other platforms be born and also prosper, including the likes of Amazon’s streaming service. Some of these may have threatened Netflix’s success but Netflix always comes out on top.

They’ve also enabled some shows and movies to become exclusive to theses platforms. For example, when you wanted to see a new release at the movie theatre you would have had to go to the movie theatre. The same model is used on these platforms with shows and movies that can only be seen by logging into them.

Streaming Is Changing Human Habits

With a convenient service that allows anyone with a subscription to watch what they want on a multitude of devices at a time to suit them, human habits have changed from streaming. Ultimately, streaming has made it possible for viewers to binge watch their favourite shows for hours. This can increase enjoyment and be a pleasure to many viewers, but it must be said, that this may also contribute to unhealthy and inactive lifestyles.

These were the evolutions of entertainment so far, what will be next?
