Exploring Shared Cinematic Universes of Marvel and DC

We have long seen shared cinematic universes used by different movies from Hollywood. You have the Lord of the Rings universe which later gave way to movies like The Hobbits which shared the same universe of magical creatures with characters from the original trilogy.

But the idea of cinematic universes has taken to a different level by the movies based out of comic book heroes. Here we have to mention the cinematic universes created by Marvel and DC, which are quite extensive and interweave the narratives of different superheroes belonging to the houses.

The Cinematic Universes You Probably Didn’t Know About!

If you have watched the recent Marvel movies, you would know that Marvel is trying to wound up a story together to get people hooked. It is making most Marvel superheroes star together to help engage the audience. However, did you know that both the Marvel and DC Universe is related? Yes, you heard that right!

Today, we explore the famous shared cinematic universes and take you on a journey through them.

Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel was the pioneering agency to have tried their hands on cinematic universe and many other studios followed suit only after them. They first introduced the concept with Iron Man in 2008 but the movie never was able to take off. It was a risky venture bringing together superhero franchises and retaining the specialty of each of them.

Luckily for Marvel, The Avengers in 2012 met their expectations and was able to take forward the cinematic universe with different superheroes in it. Now Marvel has become super confident with their approach and we have the Avengers: Infinity War continuing the tradition. The next phase will definitely see them extending the cinematic universe and we are expecting a big project soon! Marvel has had some great story writers and we are sure the plot wouldn’t disappoint.

DC Extended Universe

DC was late to enter the scene of shared cinematic universes and used Green Lantern to launch their DCEU in 2011. But the movie did was not able to perform at the box office and DC had to look elsewhere.

Two years later DC seemed to have found the spell that would make their cinematic universe work. They released the Man of Steel under director Zack Snyder which was accepted warm heartedly by the audience. Soon they started their next project Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by creating a cross-franchise with the Man of Steel sequel. But the movie received harsh criticisms and fans were not happy with the results.

Maybe the next endeavor from DC will be a groundbreaking effort which will ultimately give them a fair chance of their shared cinematic universe. DC, like Marvel should focus on interweaving the plots in cross-franchises and not just feature cameos by their superheroes.

Marvel can be considered to be the leaders in this realm and DC should take some note from them.
