Berlinale Special captivates audiences with its variety of formats and a multifaceted programme. In addition to the films already announced eight more films have been confirmed with guests such as Jeon Do-yeon, Pierfrancesco Favino, Felix Lobrecht, Mario Martone, Helen Mirren, Peter Simonischek and David Wnendt.

2023 Berlinale Shorts – Fiction Against a Real-Life Backdrop

Twenty short films from 15 countries are competing for the Golden and Silver Bears. Their fictional stories are embedded in real-life contexts or deal with current hot topics in unusual cinematic ways. The films roam through the night and celebrate the sun, they uncover treasures from film archives and make the screen pulsate. An eclectic journey through biographies, relationships and the emotions.

Auf dem Weg zu den Retrospektiven der Zukunft: die Filme im Forum Special

Queere Flamboyanz in Rio de Janeiro, umgekehrte Ethnographie in Bärwalde und das Kamera-Skalpell des Sohrab Shahid Saless: Neben den Filmen des Hauptprogramms bietet das 53. Berlinale Forum Gelegenheit, in die Filmgeschichte einzutauchen. Die Reihe „Fiktionsbescheinigung“ wird mit zehn Filmen fortgesetzt. Ergänzt werden sie durch zwei neu restaurierte historische Filme.

Headed for the Retrospectives of the Future: the Films Showing at the Forum Special

Queer flamboyance in Rio de Janeiro, inverted ethnography in Bärwalde and the camera-aided dissections of Sohrab Shahid Saless: in addition to the films showing at its main programme, the 53rd Berlinale Forum also gives audiences the opportunity to dive into film history. The “Fiktionsbescheinigung” series continues with a new selection of ten films, while two newly restored historical films round off the Forum Special programme.
