Berlinale Goes Kiez: The Complete ProgrammeBerlinale Goes Kiez im Thalia – Das Programmkino (2012 und 2014) © Peter Kreibich / Berlinale 2014
From February 18 to 24, Berlinale Goes Kiez will be dotted around the city with a sample of the festival programme, in celebration of the region's vibrant cinema landscape. The audience is invited to take in select festival films in a familiar atmosphere and interact directly with the visiting film teams. This year, the series will open with a presentation of the documentary film Sieben Winter in Teheran (Seven Winters in Tehran, Perspektive Deutsches Kino) at Bundesplatz-Kino. Prior to the screening, a conversation organised in co-operation with Amnesty International will take place in the cinema foyer. A book accompanying the film, entitled “Wie man ein Schmetterling wird: Das kurze, mutige Leben meiner Tochter Reyhaneh Jabbari”, co-written by Shole Pakravan, the mother of the executed student, and director Steffi Niederzoll, has also recently been published – the authors will be sharing excerpts from this work in the scope of the event. The reading will take place in German, the conversation in English. Interested parties can register to attend the conversation for free by February 17, 2023 by writing perspektive@berlinale.de. In total, Berlinale Goes Kiez is presenting 15 feature films drawn from nearly every section of the Berlinale, including four films each from the Competition and Panorama and two works from Perspektive Deutsches Kino. One film a piece was selected from the programmes of Encounters, Berlinale Special, Generation, Forum and Berlinale Classics. Berlinale Series is represented with a complete series season, while Berlinale Shorts is represented with five short films. As such, all across town – from way up north in Pankow to the southern edge of the city in Gropiusstadt – Berlinale Goes Kiez is offering a sample of the festival programme and this year’s thematic focal points, with the individual film selection tailored to the respective cinemas. For all the events, the film teams will be making guest appearances to provide introductions and/or talks following the screenings, led once again this year by moderator Anne Lakeberg. Thus, audience members have the opportunity to watch select Berlinale films in their “own” neighbourhood cinemas and to engage in direct interaction with the visiting film teams.
