Berlinale 2024: Diversity and Inclusion

The Berlinale is constantly working to remove existing barriers and to develop more inclusive services. All offers on diversity and accessibility at the 74th Berlinale can be found online.

Furthermore, the Berlinale has an Anti-Discrimination Code of Conduct that sets out the rules of social interaction for all areas of the festival.

The Berlinale is committed to diversity, inclusion and accessibility, and is constantly working to further develop inclusive events.
The guidelines for social togetherness are set out in the Anti-Discrimination Code of Conduct. An Awareness Team of formally educated anti-discrimination consultants will be available again to ensure its implementation.
Detailed information on the respective offerings related to inclusion during the 74th Berlinale is published on the Berlinale Inclusion page. Information on accessibility at the EFM are online as well.
The festival programme undergoes a Gender Evaluation annually. The TEDDY Award, the festival’s queer film award, makes LGBTIQ+ topics visible at the festival. Generation offers educational cinema events for school classes as well as for youth projects outside of school.

Equity & Inclusion Pathways Seminar
Tuesday, February 20, 9.00 am – 2.00 pm (invitation only)

Co-funded by Creative Europe MEDIA and taking place yearly at the EFM 2023, 2024 and 2025, the Equity & Inclusion Pathways Seminar is an industry-wide consultation forum that brings together European decision-makers, advocacy groups, stakeholders and change-makers with the aim of shifting the needle regarding equity, inclusion and accessibility in terms of policymaking, strategy, measures and actions.

The change and advances that this Seminar aims to bring about for the European film industry are resolutely structural, and involves not only creating sustainable pathways for equity-seeking professionals into the European film sector, but also dismantling discrimination, biases, barriers and exclusions as well as valuing the unrealised potential of the contributions of marginalised film professionals to the industry. Ultimately, the Seminar whose focus is race and ethnicity applies an intersectional lens to all the subjects it unpacks and calls for a more equitable redistribution of redistribution of resources and decision-making power, greater accessibility and safeguards against structural racism and other forms of discrimination.

The seminar's partner this year is OMNI Inclusion Data, an initiative by MOIN Film Fund in collaboration with Australia's The Everyone Project. OMNI aims to support diversity in the German film industry by collecting factual data from cast and crew on a voluntary basis, ensuring compliance with EU Data Protection laws. The platform provides the industry with the most up-to-date analysis on inclusion statistics, contributing to a more diverse film and media landscape.
