Après trois jours de délibération, le jury du Grand Prix Images Vevey 2019/2020, présidé par l’artiste indienne Dayanita Singh et composé d’Emma Bowkett (Directrice de la photographie, Financial Times FT Weekend Magazine, Londres), Lesley A. Martin (Directrice artistique, Fondation Aperture, New York), Christoph Wiesner (Directeur artistique, Paris Photo) et Francesco Zanot (Commissaire d’exposition indépendant, Milan) a attribué les prix suivants :

After three days of deliberation, the jury of the Grand Prix Images Vevey 2019/2020, chaired by Indian artist Dayanita Singh and composed of Emma Bowkett (Director of Photography, Financial Times FT Weekend Magazine, London), Lesley A. Martin (Creative Director, Aperture Foundation, New York), Christoph Wiesner (Artistic Director, Paris Photo) and Francesco Zanot (Independent curator, Milan) awarded the following prizes:

"Le jury a été particulièrement impressionné par Dark Waters, une réflexion de Kristine Potter sur la violence qui imprègne les paysages et la culture populaire du sud des États-Unis. Plus spécifiquement, les membres du jury ont estimé que l’approche gothique et littéraire adoptée par l’artiste pour aborder la tradition américaine des murder ballads méritait d’être soulignée pour la façon dont elle détourne un sujet photographique classique : le paysage américain." Le Grand Prix Images Vevey est une bourse d’aide à la création photographique. Ce prix de CHF 40’000 (env. € 35’000) permet à un artiste de développer un projet inédit. Le lauréat a maintenant une année pour réaliser ce projet qui sera présenté en avant-première dans le cadre du prochain Festival Images Vevey du 5 au 27 septembre 2020.

 “The jury was deeply impressed by "Dark Waters", Kristine Potter’s meditation on the violence embedded in the landscape and popular culture of the American South. In particular, the jury members considered the work’s gothic, literary approach to the tradition of American murder ballads to be notable for its ability to turn a classic photographic subject—the American landscape—on its head." Grand Prix Images Vevey is a creation-support grant for photography projects. The award, worth some CHF 40,000 (approx. EUR 35,000), enables artists to develop an original project. The winner now has one year to complete the project which will premiere at the next Festival Images Vevey from 5 to 27 September 2020.

"La proposition de livre de Gloria Oyarzabal, Woman No Go'Gree, comprend une combinaison captivante de ses propres images, une sélection de documents d’archives, ainsi qu’un long essai fondé sur ses recherches. Le projet s’attaque au défi d’appliquer des notions soi-disant universelles du féminisme occidental à des cultures dont les traditions sont fondamentalement différentes. “Gloria Oyarzabal’s book proposal, "Woman No Go'Gree", promises an engaging, visually exciting mix of her own images, a selection of archival material, and an extensive, research-based text. The project wrestles with the challenges of applying “universal” Western feminist ideas to cultures with entirely different traditions.
