HKIFF41 Comes to a Fruitful End
Film Screenings Continue in Cine Fan and SummerIFF After screening over 230 titles from 65 countries and regions in 15 days, the 41st Hong Kong International Film Festival comes to a fruitful end yesterday (25 April). Audiences nevertheless can continue to enjoy good films in the Cine Fan May to July programmes and the Summer International Film Festival (SummerIFF) which will run from 15 to 29 August. The 42nd Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF42) will be held from 19 March to 5 April 2018. Two retrospectives featuring French master Robert BRESSON and Japanese legendary star MIFUNE Toshiro are the highlights of the Cine Fan programmes. Audiences can experience the eleven sublime masterpieces of BRESSON in one go. In addition to the four restored classics that were presented earlier during the festival, the line-up includes two more restored classics – Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) and Mouchette (1967). His other beautifully-crafted works to be screened also include Diary of a Country Priest (1951), The Devil, Probably (1977), etc. On the 20th anniversary of the death of MIFUNE Toshiro, Cine Fan will present seven of his works showcasing his flamboyant masculinity. Two classics are from his close collaboration with KUROSAWA Akira - High and Low (1963) and Red Beard (1965), with which he won his second Best Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival. Besides, audiences can also see his compelling performances in other acclaimed directors' works, including INAGAKI Hiroshi's Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto (1954) and KOBAYASHI Masaki's Samurai Rebellion (1967). The documentary, Mifune: The Last Samurai (2015), directed by Oscar winner Steven OKAZAKI offers a thoughtful examination of his life. Cinephiles certainly should not miss the invaluable opportunity to take the film course “Edward Yang, 10-year Commemoration”, and watch Jacques RIVETTE's rarely seen enigmatic film Love on the Ground (1984). Watch out for the full list of SummerIFF, which will be announced later. A full list of the Cine Fan programmes is available at http://cinefan.com.hk/. Tickets are now on sale in all URBTIX outlets. For SummerIFF, tickets will be available from 26 July onwards. 27.04.2017 | AwardsWatch's blog Cat. : AWARDS
