____________________________________________________ Friday evening, AIFF welcomed home filmmaker Sally Rubin who was raised in Newton and now lives and works in CA with her most recent film, hillbilly. Sally led a conversation following the screening, whereupon she shared with us her personal and political journey into the heart of the Appalachian coalfields. This film explores the role of media representation in the creation of the iconic American hillbilly and examines the social, cultural, and political underpinnings of this infamous stereotype.
