By Maria Esteves - June 20, 2009
The 12th Brooklyn International Film Festival 2009 (BIFF) New York Premiere
of EM, written and directed by Tony Barbieri, was held at the Brooklyn Heights Cinema, New York, Tuesday, June 9, 7:00 pm. A special Q&A with producer Jim Jermanok preceded the film's premiere after party at Rebar. Producers Jim Jermanok and Harry Gregson-Williams were honored the 2009 BIFF Outstanding Achievement in Production Award.
EM is the most extraordinary and captivating film that depicts an ordinary couple from San Francisco living with bipolar disorder. After two years together in a romantic relationship, Josh (Nathan Wetherington) surprisingly finds Amanda nicknamed Em (Stef Willen) in the bathroom after a suicide-attempt. As Em's mental illness becomes severe and does her best to conceal it from Josh, the couple struggle with the haunting reality of separation advised by a therapist. The film is truly genuine, not to be missed.
