Films of Outstanding Soviet Cinematographists of the 1930s

In the beginning of the millenium I created and issued several films dedicated to the destinies of the Soviet cinematographists of the early Soviet (pre-war) era. Protazanov, Dziga Vertov, Einstein, Lev Kuleshov and Pudovkin comprise a bright pleyad of that epoch. They practiced purely experimental genres and themes. I owe to Ilya Blokhintsev, a grandson of Seguey Vassilyev, a creator of "Chapaev" and "The Cheluskin-followers" who got me, in person, consacrated to the theme. Yakov Protazanov is a separate figure - a protagonist for my film. Others serve themes for my documentaries and featurized shortcuts. I also dedicated a part of my material to those ones who foundated Hollywood with its methods: namely, to Michael Chekhov (to whose personality and destiny I devoted two separate films) and Max Factor (a character of John Updike at an essay that I happened to translate from English). The primary stage of development of the Soviet cinema and of Hollywood are extremely meaningful for theoretizing and for the following genre practice. The large cinema encounts almost a century of intense screening and of film production. So we can not overestimate the meaningfulness of the early period of genre extending. The expansion of the genre is visible but the development of technical and stylistical structures is yet of vaster impact. Anna Polibina-Polansky, a documentary film maker of the theoreticians of screen genres; Moscow; 03.03.2020.
