The Truth That Wasn't There

Based on the blog ‚"Relevant Truth: Sri Lanka"‚" www.relevantruth.wordpress.com The Truth That Wasn't There
is a documentary like no other. In three distinct parts it tells the
story of the aftermath of Sri Lankan civil war which came to an end in
May 2009. Across the world news cameras focused their lenses to find
that journalism itself had become the story. No independent journalists
were allowed to cover the conflict. News organisations such as the BBC
and Channel 4 News in the UK were rebuffed and sent home. Prominent
journalists within the country were under threat and dissent was being
silenced. This sent shock waves around the world as international
pressure mounted and a fervent diaspora took to the streets in protest.
It became a war without witness. In a sometimes hair-raising and often
poignant journey.

Guy Gunaratne, Heidi Lindvall and Philip Panchenko, three student
filmmakers find themselves capturing the moment intent on salvaging some
kind of truth behind the headlines. They travel deep into former LTTE
territory, witness the realities behind the barbed wire fences of Menik
Farm and became the first to witness the final battleground in the
North-East.
