When Gustav Met Sigmund

user
Films that feature well known figures from history are always intriguing, whether they reflect actual fact or are mere figments of the director's feverish imagination. In the delightfully dishy MAHLER ON THE COUCH, the filmmaking team of Percy Adlon (pere) and Felix Adlon (fils) have made a delicious historical "did-it-ever-happen" that features such historical characters as the classical composer Gustav Mahler, the psychotherapist Sigmund Freud and the Bauhaus design founder Walter Gropius (wi...

Ham & The Piper complete

user
It's beena tremendous effort to finally finish Ham & The Piper. The film is magnificent and looks beautiful, thanks to the work of young Polish cinemtagrapher, Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz, a real talent for one so young. The music is wonderful too and the performances.... out of this world, especially Jeffery Kissoon in the lead. We've had some interest which is great before we head off into the festival circuit.   Check the film out on http://www.wix.com/hamandthepiper/movie ...

Au Revoir Rhiannon Hobbins…

user
This month we say au revoir to Rhiannon Hobbins, ÉCU’s Festival Manager for the past four years. Rhiannon was the ultimate resource for all that is ÉCU but she is moving on to her next adventure back in her home country of Australia. It’s hard to express how much she will be missed but her influence will be everlasting as the festival builds upon the fabulous foundations that she put in place. So, without further ado Rhiannon tells us in her own words how the last four years...

Screen Actors Guild Nominees

user
While it limits its nominations to acting awards for film and television, the Screen Actors Guild Awards are considered very prestigious because they are given to actors by their fellow thespians. The awards ceremony, which used to be a private affair for guild members, is now televised in the United States and internationally, thus adding another layer in the run-up to the Academy Awards in February.   As with the Golden Globe Award nominations announced on Wednesday, Na...

London Fest It's kind of a funny story

London Film Festival 13-28 October 2010IT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY [2010] dir Ryan Fleck & Anna BodenIT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY is most probably the best example of the culmination of every Hollywood studio's "indie film branch" teenage crisis movie ever made. It tells the story of Craig (Keir Gilchrist), a 16-year old teenager who is engulfed by depression and when is on the way to attempt suicide, decides to go check himself into a psych ward of the local hospital instead.  IT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY is most probably the best example of the culmination of every Hollywood studio's "indie film branch" teenage crisis movie ever made. It tells the story of Craig (Keir Gilchrist), a 16-year old teenager who is engulfed by depression and when is on the way to attempt suicide, decides to go check himself into a psych ward of the local hospital instead. He then is committed for a minimum of five days and guided by the seemingly normal Bobby (Zach Galifianak...

A New York State of Mind at Woodstock FF

user
Woodstock, New York, nestled in the majestic Catskill Mountains about 100 miles of New York, has a unique perspective on “a New York state of mind”. Close enough to New York City to its south to be influenced by its multi-culturalism and razor-sharp analysis of everything from fashion to publishing to politics to Wall Street, it has also been a haven for ex-pat New Yorkers who burned out from the impossibly fast pace of the city and found an inspiring solace in the bucolic ...

The Last Rites of Ransom Pride an Authentic Western

user
The Last Rites of Ransom Pride, an Authentic Western film By Ron Gilbert When you enter a theater to watch a film, it should you really want it to be an experience. So best not to read the press kit or the other film festival reviews. because you do not want to prejudice your reactions to the film if possible. So I went to a late night screening at the Laemmle Sunset Five Theatres to see The Last Rites of Ransom Pride. From the opening shot of the film I knew that this was goi...
