Wednesday, June 7---Inspired by the seminal 7 UP films of British director Michael Apted, which followed the same group of youngsters at ages 7, 14 and 21, the SILVERDOCS AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival will present the premiere of 21 UP AMERICA, directed by Christopher Quinn.
The film is the third installment in a series that has recorded the same subjects at ages 7 and 14, and now turns its focus on what it is like to be 21 in America today. The film provides a provocative case study of the impact of race and class have on these young peoples' sense of themselves and their prospects for the future.
The film was produced by Granada Media and will be shown on US cable network The Discovery Channel later this year. Following the film's screening on Saturday, June 17, the Festival will host the Closing Night Reception at the Gallery Resteraurant and Lounge in Silver Spring.
