Delving into the mysteries of the past, Moroccan filmmaker and producer Asmae El Moudir embarks on a transformative quest to unveil the truth hidden within her family's memories in her hybrid documentary the “Mother of all Lies,” premiering in the Un Certain Regard Section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Asmae's relentless determination to unearth the secrets of her family’s past led her on a decade-long journey of discovery, digging deep into the emotional texture of the lies that have shaped her life.
Together, we explore why this (her first feature) was not like any other film for Asmae. We discuss her inventive creative approach to the lack of images that compelled her to recreate a miniature neighbourhood, the profound sense of responsibility towards her family and community in telling their stories, and how the double role of director and producer of the film has shaped the production process and impacted her career.

Developed by Thessaloniki International Film Festival in partnership with Cannes Marché du Film & Berlinale's EFM and in collaboration with The Catalysts Agency
On November 5, 2022, the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, in collaboration with The Catalysts agency and in partnership with Cannes Marché du Film and Berlinale's EFM, launched a series of three Think Tanks with the aim to bring together key stakeholders for a visionary reflection around the future of film markets as institutions and major players of the industry ecosystem. The goal was to detect relevant topics of concern, discuss upcoming challenges, and encourage an open conversation and mutual support for other European film markets and industry events, covering the entire scope of markets from smaller up to large scale organizations, willing to openly ask: What does an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable future of film markets look like?
After the initial Think Tank, held on February 21 at the Berlin's EFM: WEAVING THE MARKET FABRIC, a group of participants representing different stakeholders of the industry met again during AGORA at the 25th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival to focus on MODELING THE MARKET SHAPE. The 3rd and last session - FINANCING THE MARKET PLACE - is taking place on May 18th during the current Marché du Film.
As originally planned, the results of these Think Tank sessions are now to be presented to Industry Professionals at an exclusive conference at the Marché du Film.
