The concept of the Award, created by Bruno Chatelin, was inspired by his days running Sony in France when the Chairman of the company David Puttnam tagged the Studio's mission with this inspiring mission "Making Movies that Matter" : very relevant, very important and visionnary.
Since its creation the award has only been handed (in Cannes) to a very small number of films. All films awarded meant a lot to Bruno, all were bringing strong and positive messages, showing the brighter side of human soul: films which inspire, call for action and change, and make an impact.
A prestigious and rare honor handed by filmfestivals.com to selected filmmakers with a strong message.
I will hand you the award at the Better Word Forum gala may 12, and will be making the Cannes trip specially for that occasion
Bruno Chatelin stated "I am the founder of filmfestivals.com, a former distributor with Sony then Fox Studios in France, but the idea of honouring movies that matter sparkled when speaking in Cannes 1987 with my boss David Puttnam who was the Chairman / CEO of the Sony Studio.
He boldly tagged the Sony studio “Making Movies that Matter”. Which intrigued me a lot for a Hollywood studio organized around commercial tentpoles, blockbusters, action films etc… I am proud of his inspiration.
Since the creation we have only given such awards on very few occasions in the last decade. Films honored were Bilal , Junod, Release from Heaven in 2016, Iqbal (2017), Yellow Submarine (2018,) Pope Francis a man of his word 2019.
Filmfestivals.com last offered a 'Movie That Matter' "Power Panel" with Wim Wenders and the Director of Communication of the Vatican (around his film on Pope Francis)
