About the festival
The challenge of the Uranium Film Festival is to bring important films about the nuclear question to the big screen, to stimulate the production of new nuclear films and to stimulate the public discussion about use and risks of nuclear power. The horror of atomic bombs and those who suffered from them, and nuclear accidents like Chernobyl or Fukushima should never be forgotten - nor repeated. "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it (George Santayana)." The legal organizer of the International Uranium Film Festival is the non-profit art and cultural organization “Arquivo Amarelo“ (Yellow Archives), based in Rio de Janeiro and registered as Brazilian charity. The festival depends on individual donors and sponsors. Since 2011 it is held every year in Rio de Janeiro. In addition the festival travels with a selection of its nuclear films to other countries and cities. The festival has been already for example in New York City, Washington DC, Santa Fe, Window Rock, in New Delhi and Mumbai, in Lisbon, in Quebec and Montreal, in Munich, Passau and 3 times in Berlin. Now it is planned to bring the festival next for the first time Los Angeles in March 2016.
