Silent Ones by Ricky Rijneke awarded at the Los Angeles Women’s Indie Film Festival 2014.
The Dutch feature film Silent Ones by Ricky Rijneke won two awards last weekend in Los Angeles at the Women's Independent Film Festival 2014.
Silent Ones won prize for best cinematography and was also given an ‘Honorable Mention’ in the category Narrative Feature Film.
The Los Angeles Women's Independent Film Festival offers a platform to female filmmakers from all parts of the world. The Film Festival is looking for the best independent films made by women.
Silent Ones is the feature debut by Ricky Rijneke and has already been screened at many international festivals including Moscow, Sarajevo, Sao Paulo, Montreal, Los Angeles and Berlin.
The film has already won several international prizes including ones for the best debut, best cinematography, best actor and recently the main prize for best film at the one Berlin Independent Film Festival.Previously, Silent Ones was nominated for the Tiger Award, the competition program and flagship of the International Film Festival Rotterdam way the film was very positively received by the professional press.
Festivalists speak of an “impressive debut feature” and refer to the work of Tarkowski and Béla Tarr.

The Dutch press was also very flattering. The Volkskrant talked of a beautiful discovery and called the film a self-assured and dislocating directing debut.
The leading role in Silent Ones is played by the Hungarian actress and Berlinale shooting star Orsi Toth who has also been seen in Delta (Cannes), Women Without Men (Silver Lion at Venice) and The Notebook (Grand Prix Karlovy Vary) and recently White God (Cannes 2014).
Silent Ones tells the story of a young Hungarian woman (Orsi Tóth) whose little brother Isti has disappeared and then leaves on board a freighter to fulfil a promise to him. A surrealistic trip balances on the brink of life and death.Silent Ones was produced by Rotterdam Films (Rijneke & van Leeuwaarden) and was made with support from the Netherlands Film Fund and the Mondrian Fund. International sales are being handled by the French sales agent Wide Management. The distributor Contact Film is bringing the film out at the end of November this year in the Netherlands.
