Le Festival du Film Britannique de Dinard are delighted to announce the titles that have been selected to compete for the Golden Hitchcock award at the 19th edition of the Festival which runs from 2nd – 5th October 2008:
• A COMPLETE HISTORY OF MY SEXUAL FAILURES by Chris Waitt also starring Alexandra Boyarskaya, Danielle McLeod, Olivia Trench
• BOY A by John Crowley starring Andrew Garfield and Peter Mullan
• CLUBBED by Neil Thompson starring Mel Raido, Shaun Parkes, Scot Williams, Maxine Peake and Colin Salmon
• THE ESCAPIST by Rupert Wyatt, starring Brian Cox and Joseph Fiennes
• HELEN by Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, starring Annie Townsend, Sandie Malia, Dennis Jobling, Sonia Saville, Danny Groenland, Sheila Hamilton
• THE MARKET – A TALE OF TRADE by Ben Hopkins, starring Tayanc Ayaydin, Genco Erkal, Senay Aydin and Hakan Sahin
These six films will be competing for The Golden Hitchcock Trophy which will be awarded by the French / English Dinard Jury this year presided over by Lambert Wilson. Last year’s Golden Hitchcock was awarded to David Mackenzie’s HALLAM FOE with special mention going to Oscar winner ONCE.

And the Special Screening this year will be YOUNG @ HEART by Stephen Walker
In addition to these titles, there will be a Retrospective on the films of Daphne Du Maurier’s work. Focusing on Alfred Hitchcock’s REBECCA and THE BIRDS, Henry Koster’s MY COUSIN RACHEL, Robert Hamer’s THE SCAPEGOAT and Nicolas Roeg’s DON’T LOOK NOW.
This year the festival are honoured to pay tribute to director Hugh Hudson who will be present to introduce some of his most famous films: Chariots of Fire, Fangio, Greystoke and Revolution REVISITED and the opening night film MY LIFE SO FAR starring Colin Firth, Rosemary Harris, Irene Jacob, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Malcolm MacDowell and Kelly Macdonald - a nostalgic memoir of a man’s childhood in the beautiful countryside of post WWI Scotland.
The closing night film will be SOMERS TOWN by perennial guest of the Dinard British Film Festival Shane Meadows.
In addition the French and British national film schools La Femis and NFTS will be submitting 3 short films to compete for the British Council Entente Cordial award.
The Dinard British Film Festival is an annual celebration of British films by both industry veterans and newcomers. Its role is a way of introducing British cinema to a French audience whilst also playing host to industry professionals from both sides of the channel in a bid to promote discussion and discovery and help British films find a place within the French market place.
