DREI (2010), the new German film by celebrated director Tom Tykwer screened in Copenhegen at the international film festival 2011. The story of a threesome that is a twosome in three ways. Dining with Tykwer and speaking to him after seeing the film, all I could say was: 'Wow!'. Images of ancient androgynous symbols together with remembrances of breakthrough concepts by Jung crowded my brain and I was inspired, to say the least.
I explained to Tom how I loved that the film discusses the nature of sexuality, forcing the viewer to look past previous preconceived notions of 'straightness' or 'gayness' but to contemplate sexuality itself. What is male? What is female? And which part of each embodies and identifies with its other? Is one entirely the other? Or in this world of illusions, might all of us be something of a mix of both sexes and everything at once? Well, these are just some of the questions one might have after seeing 'Drei' but certainly, this film makes one think! Bravo Mr. Tykwer!
and one more thing: PARALLEL/NON PARALLEL LINES! ;-)
