the Seven Tapes

Director: yair qedar.
"The Seven Tapes" is a cinematic journey into the world of Yona Wallach, a legendary poet, who's radical life and poetry ended in an early age, leaving behind a myth and a trail of admirers. More than 25 years after her death, seven recorded tapes from her last interview are discovered. In these tapes, Wallach confesses on her life journey: her attraction to madness, her experiments with drugs, her relationship with god and about the dangers of writing. The film weaves her testimony with interviews, with rare archival footage from the sixties to the eighties, with her poems and with animation that revives Wallach's thoughts, images and visions. THE SEVEN TAPES is a troubling encounter with an exceptional artist, whose riddle remains unsolved to this day.

user
The Amazing Spider-Man Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary,  Martin Sheen, Irrfan Khan and Sally Field Director: Marc Webb For some readers, Holden Caulfield, the 16-year-old protagonist of  J D Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, is the epitome of teenage angst, anger and rebellion. Like many teenagers, Peter (Andrew Garfield) Parker, a solitary high schooler and the alter ego of SpiderMan, does not keep his word. He...

BUFF BLOG (MAY 2012)

user
The much maligned profile of Black British actresses has been well documented on this blog over the past 18 months and most recently in the London Evening Standard with the forthcoming feel-good flick ‘Fast Girls’ and the supposed significance of Leonora Crichlow playing the lead role in a British film. On such matters is primarily where Twitter comes into its own as a live news editor run by the public. It doesn’t take long before feedback is immediate and corrected (many thanks to @ECF...

Konstantin Bozhanov: “It is not necessary to take a ship to go to a non-existent village on the Danube”

user
Ave is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. The work keeps the viewers in a natural suspense that is not a filmmaking trick but the core of the story told – universal on one hand, but on the other hand, somehow corresponding to the local reality (just before the start of the shooting Konstanin Bozhanov was offered to rewrite the script and moving the story to Seattle, but he refused because it didn’t seem natural to him). A film with very dark and poorly lit sp...

GUILTY OF ROMANCE (2011) by Sono Shion, at Fantasporto 2012

user
One of the most eccentric films I have seen of late was the Japanese film GUILTY OF ROMANCE (恋の罪 Koi no Tsumi?, 2011) by auteur director Sono Shion. Reflecting the genre Japanese ‘pink cinema’, the film is about three women who find sexual freedom in unconventional ways through pink paint balloon tossing, prostitution and poetry. From the director of the films COLD FISH (2010) and HIMIZU (2011), Shion is not only a prolific director but one who shocks and pushes the envelope...
