#What It’s Like to Chill with the Most Ruthless Men in the World Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic: Confessions of a Female War

user
## #What It’s Like to Chill with the Most Ruthless Men in the World Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic: Confessions of a Female War Crimes Investigator Retrospectively, it was all so simple, natural and matter of fact being on a boat restaurant in Belgrade, sitting with, laughing, drinking a two hundred bottle of wine and chatting about war and peace while Ratko Mladic held my hand.  Mladic,  a man considered the world’s most ruthless war criminal since Adolf Hitler, still at larg...

Mariam's Amazing Race to Cannes and back to Cambodia: Day 18

user
DAY EIGHTEEN The day started early with a bowl of cereal, yogurt and fresh fruit. Then it was time to pack the purple carpet bag again and head off to another train station. Wynford drove me to the station, where the price for a train ticket had gone from $35 Pounds if I had purchased the ticket online the night before, to $69. Since my credit card wasn't working, we walked over to the National Express bus office where a ticket to London was a mere $23, which I had in cash. Howe...

Mariam's Amazing Race to Cannes: Day Three

user
Thankfully, the flight on AirAsia to London Standsted was uneventful. I was so happy that they had personal "handheld entertainment" units - rental for flight $30 R. I was able to watch some movies & TV, listen to music and play games. Everything went like clockwork after my arrival. The passport control took 45 minutes. I picked up my bag, purchased a $19 GBP Stansted Express train ticket with $100 Euros, giving me British Pounds as change so I am set for the next two...

A festival Wife Chapter 6: 24-hour party people

user
Henry Dean, veteran publicist, resists retirement by holding onto his PR job for the San Lorenzo Film Festival, where for twenty-eight years he has stayed at the Hotel Medici, maintaining a long-running affair with his beloved Leticia, one of the hotel's chamber maids. But Henry's job (and love affair) depends upon looking after the Festival's guest of honor - a cantankerous older film director who only needs a little press - and the task is proving more trouble than anticipated. Equally troubli...

Sneaky Snake: Lost In The Holy Land to screen at NYIIFVF

user
One wouldn't expect a harmless sock-puppet snake to challenge the stormy topic of circumcision in the world's holiest city, Jerusalem.  But that's just what happens in the hilarious short film, "Sneaky Snake: Lost In The Holy Land."  The six-minute film's germination began in a cab ride after filmmakers and piano bar entertainers George Sanders and Shawn Curran toured Jerusalem.  "We'd never been to Israel, and Jerusalem was mind-blowing," says Sanders. "We...

Last night’s red carpet event could have been something written in a movie.  Our Modern Master had a local driver drop him off at the award ceremony.  With fans filling the streets and ticket holders wrapped around the block, red carpet access was limited to say the least.  So limited in fact, that when I arrived there was nary a sliver of space to even sneak through, which made Mr. Eastwood’s entrance all the more incredible.   As the festival powers-that-be, press and fans waited ...
