Just days before the film’s premiere at “The New York Film Festival”, Mark do...

THE SOCIAL NETWORK Kicks Off 2010 NYFF

user
Future generations will be in a better position to determine whether the introduction of social networking technology in the first decade of the 20th century was a blessing or a curse. Certainly for the entrepreneurs who created new ways for us to communicate with one another, it has been both. Such is the case for the multi-billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, who founded the internet phenomenon Facebook, but who has lost as much as he has gained in terms of the trust and love of his friends...

Whatever Happened To Ryan Gosling?

user
I've never seen The Notebook.  I know.  That's bad right?  An alleged film connoisseur who writes a blog about films and never has seen The Notebook.  But I must admit, I've seen just about every other Ryan Gosling film made. My favorite is the film Half Nelson where he plays the crack-addicted school teacher who begins an unlikely friendship with one of his students.  I also loved his work in United States of Leland where he had the opportunity to work with the likes of Kevi...

Medium Rare

Director: Paul Madden.
On the dark side of Hollywood, B-Movie maven Harry Costas (Burt Young) is forced to protect the screen legacy of his wife Helga (Lainie Kazan) when a low-life upstart producer threatens to ruin her image. Harry's goons (Alex Winter + Brad Dourif) intend to screw-up the production, but instead they skewer the stars, which brings in some bungling cops (Al Ruscio and the late Dr. Timothy Leary).

Eat Your Cherry Dear

user
The 4th press conference of International Film Festival FEST 2010 was dedicated to Iranian film, “A Man Who Ate His Cherries” directed by Payman Hagani: film explores divorce on Iranian way, inspired by the same documentary shot 10 years ago. The film was not very welcomed in Iran because of the social taboo subject that explores the subject of divorce in Iran. That is why film director decided to present reality in black and white and dreams in color. The film, as director explained, “W...

Views of North America At POFF

user
This year, POFF, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, made a real commitment to showcasing new independent films from the USA and Canada. Ten films were selected for the newly inaugurated North American Independents Competition, all of which do not currently have distribution deals in place for Eastern Europe (but hopefully that will change as a result of the exposure here). In all, 25 films from the USA and Canada, many making their European or Eastern European premieres. In...

Men who stare at Goats - The London Film Festival

user
Well, what can you say when you've got  George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor and Kevin Spacey in one film.  Add to that a comedy based on life being stranger than fiction. The movie is inspired by UK journalist, Jon Ronsons non-fiction best seller, exploring the bizarre activities of a secret, elite division of the US military trained in psychic powers and psychological warfare' techniques.  It is a roller coaster ride through a quirky, crazy, absurd, nostalgic adventure that amuse...

Bollywood at Toronto

user
Mainstream Indian entertainment films from Bombay, which means the flashy three hour song and dance extravaganzas which have come to be know by the somewhat patronizing appellation "Bollywood" -- as opposed to the "serious art" films from India which had been making the festival rounds until now, are suddenly beginning to surface at major international film festivals, the latest instance being Toronto 2009.  At the 34th  instalment of this mega-festival (for that is e...
