Créés en 1951, les Prix Jean Vigo distinguent l’indépendance d’esprit, la qualité et l'originalité des cinéastes de court et long métrages. Plutôt que saluer l’excellence d’un film, le Prix Jean Vigo tient à remarquer un auteur d'avenir, à découvrir à travers lui une passion et un don. Le “Vigo" n'est pas un prix de consécration mais un prix d'encouragement, de confiance. Un pari.

Pour mémoire, en 2018

- le Prix Jean Vigo du long-métrage a été attribué, ex-aequo à : :
JEAN-BERNARD MARLIN pour Shéhérazade
