Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event announce projects for the second edition of the script competition Script Pool Tallinn and POWR Baltic Stories Exchange international forum that runs for the 11th time this year.

Script Pool Tallinn competition winner receives the prize of 5000 euros, provided by the leading international sales & distribution company Global Screen GmbH. Five teams consisting of scriptwriters and producers will be competing in Tallinn at the open pitch on the 29th of November.

According to Triin Tramberg, Script Pool competition coordinator, this year brings exciting discoveries. "While last year’s Script Pool presented interesting projects from known directors who already had a history with the Black Nights Film Festival, then for the second edition we are welcoming emerging talents and discovering fresh voices from around the world.”

Selected projects:

Daniel Baldotto (Colombia) – Eva, stay with me

George Varsimashvili, Nicos Panayotopoulos (Georgia) – Lisa Antelava is a bitch

Radu Romaniuc (Romania) – Man of Deeds

Tinna Hrafnsdóttir (Iceland) – Quake

Assel Aushakimova (Kazakhstan) – Welcome to the USA

This year, Industry@Tallinn collaborates with MIDPOINT, a training and networking platform with the aim to strengthen the creative collaboration between writers, directors and producers in the development process in Central and Eastern Europe. Marietta von Hausswolff, Swedish screenwriter and script consultant who has written and co-produced the award-winning Call Girl (2012) will be this year’s MIDPOINT script doctor as she will mentor selected Script Pool Tallinn screenwriters and give feedback on their projects.

Script Pool Tallinn is a script competition with the aim of gathering talented scriptwriters with producers attached, in order to provide them support enhancing the script, thus maximising its production and distribution potential.

POWR Baltic Stories Exchange is a 4-day scriptwriters’ workshop that gives Nordic and Baltic screenwriters access to an international forum where they can present their projects and writing talent during the largest regional film market in Northeastern Europe.

This year, POWR has partnered up with In Focus, a Finnish initiative aimed at female filmmakers that provides an incubator to support four projects to cross the bridge from script to production stage. In Focus will pitch their projects in collaboration with POWR.

Like last year, the workshop will be run by experienced tutors Valeria Richter and Helene Granqvist. Selected scriptwriters will present their projects on the 29th of November. It is an opportunity to hear the new voices and stories from the Baltic & Nordic film communities and a voice from this year’s country of focus of Baltic Event 2018 – Italy.

Selected projects:

Lucas Abrahao, Bojana Babic (Estonia) – Innocent Gun

Sevgi Emel (Finland, In Focus) – Room 511

Aino Lappalainen (Finland, In Focus) – Å

Hanna Partanen (Finland) – Suicide Mission

Kirsi Marie Liimatainen (Finland) – Kerttu / If I Would Talk to You

Lotta-Kaisa Riistakoski (Finland, In Focus) – Hot Pans (working title)

Susanna Ake (Finland, In Focus) – Provider

Adel Oberto (Italy) – Alone Against the Sky (working title)

Morten Traavik (Latvia/Norway) – Lady from the Sea

POWR Baltic Stories Exchange was launched by our region’s MEDIA Desks with the goal to bring forward the young talent of the Nordic and Baltic countries. A few years into its success, POWR was moved under the Baltic Event Co-Production Market to give the participants an even wider forum to present their stories. Over the years, many participating projects have found a producer from Baltic Event.

About Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Started in 1997, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has grown into one of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe and busiest regional industry platforms, hosting more than 1000 guests and industry delegates and over 160 journalists. The festival screens around 250 features and more than 300 shorts and animations and sees an attendance of 80 000 people annually. In 2017 the festival was covered in 71 languages with a potential global media audience of over 1.1 billion people.

As of 2014 the festival holds the FIAPF accreditation for holding an international competition programme which puts the festival into the so- called A-category of film festivals, alongside other 14 festivals in the world (including Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastian, Shanghai, Tokyo etc).

Black Nights has an umbrella structure with two sub-festivals PÖFF Shorts and youth and children's film festival Just Film taking place concurrently with the main festival,
two off-season festivals - Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival and Tartu Love Film Festival - and a fully-fledged film industry platform Industry@Tallinn, organised jointly with the Baltic Event Co-production market.

Black Nights Film Festival 16 Nov - 2 Dec
PÖFF Shorts 20 Nov - 25 Nov
