Another international day at the beautiful Slovenian Istra, Canadian Frédérick Pelletier presents  his debut film Diego Star at 9th Kino Otok Isola at the grande Manzioli Open-Air Cinema. Enchanting film about ethical dilemmas in the ethnically diverse environment. The management of a big cargo ship Diego Star makes a huge mistake, which causes ship’s falling apart and workers from III World countries are the one to blame. Especially the one who is right. Traoré is a stoic mechanic and engineer from the Ivory Coast who is in no position to question Canadian white authority and that is why he is the first one to go, to be deported back to his country and back to poverty, if it is his worst nightmare.  Diego Star looks straight into the eyes to a great social injustice and poverty in capitalism. The film is about the power of a patronizing society, who tend to moralize or judge, without no mercy for poor III World countries people. "For me social realism is less genre than an ethic: it is a way to look and understand the World. In French à hauter d’homme is the expression used for this obligation to look at things and people right in the face, without any form of indulgence or pity", said Pelletier. Frédérick Pelletier’s first debute, with film Diego Star premiered at Rotterdam Film Festival is the Canadian filmmaker, in a same line with Quebec’s younger generation autors and their brilliant approach to a social reality in film and the crude social reality of capitalism. This unsentimental social drama about people treated badly, as the collteral damage. A perfectly good story, that casts light on some sort of sense for a social justice and about destructive effects of economic interests in the developed capitalist world.

For further on the festival, among other fantastic films, on a clear bright starry night at Kino Otok at the Lighthouse Program on the beach, also presented Berlin’s Serbian animation Rabbitland by Ana Nedeljković and Nikola Majdak,jr., a dark animated surplus that won the Best Short Film Crystal Bear at latests Berlinale.
