Let's face it, the difficulties with women in sports remain a worldwide theme in terms of recognition and money. That said, LFG is a rundown on US Women's Soccer as seen by the players. And it isn't for the glory, it's a run for the same opportunities the US Men's Soccer team get offered in general. LFG is an acronym for sports rallying cry "Let's F*cking Go," and Academy Award-winning filmmakers Andrea Nix Fine and Sean Fine have shined a spot on the saga behind the US Women's Soccer team's fight for equal pay. Here's what official word on this gutsy film comes down to: Three months before the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the players filed a class-action, gender discrimination lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation, which sets the stage for new documentary LFG.
This film intercuts standing-ovation athletic performances, including a record-breaking World Cup victory in 2019, with the players’ ongoing battle for equal compensation with the US Men's Soccer team as a whole. LFG grants viewers unprecedented access to these game-changers as they meet harsh physical demands and the pressures of being atop the world’s athletic pinnacle, while showcasing their courage, unflinching grit and resiliency in an effort to create social change with the biggest brawl for women’s rights since Title IX.
LFG is a backs-against-the-wall inside account of the U.S. women’s national team’s ongoing fight for salary parity, same bucks for same jobs on the paying field, as told by Megan Rapinoe, Jessica McDonald, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelley O’Hara, Sam Mewis and others. An official selection of the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, the documentary film is directed by Academy Award®-winners Andrea Nix Fine and Sean Fine, and produced by the Fines and Abby Greensfelder with Howard T. Owens and Ben Silverman serving as executive producers for Propagate Content in collaboration with CNN Films and HBOMax.
Cast: Megan Rapinoe, Jessica McDonald, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelley O’Hara, Christen Press, Sam Mewis, and Julie Foudy
