Screenwriters' Panel:  Are family films relevant for the digital age?

A must attend event, join some of Hollywood's most prominent film scribes as they discuss how and why big-tent family films resonate more with wired audiences in this mobile, social media-sated world.  

MICHAEL GOLDENBERG

Michael Goldenberg's screenwriting credits include the film Contact (Jodie Foster, Matthew McConnuaghey), adapted from the Carl Sagan novel and directed by Robert Zemeckis, as well as Peter Pan, directed by P.J. Hogan. He also worked on the adaptation of Maurice Sendak'Where the Wild Things Are for Universal Pictures and producer Tom Hanks, directed by Spike Jonze. Goldenberg wrote and directed the romantic drama Bed of Roses, starring Christian Slater and Mary Stuart Masterson, and wrote the screenplay for the fifth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. More recently he contributed to the scripts for Green Lantern and Sherlock Holmes 2, penned the latest in a long line of unproduced versions of Wonder Woman, and adapted the novel Artemis Fowl for Disney and producer Harvey Weinstein.

QUENDRITH JOHNSON

Quendrith Johnson is a graduate of UCLA Film School, where she won the Marty Klein Comedy Award from APA, a nod in UCLA’s Samuel Goldwyn Awards, and received acclaim for Nicholl Semi-finalist script Jazz Age Doll, listed on the Academy’s website, as well as for The Wendy Years (1977-1987) which was honored for 2015. Her screenplay Choosing Paula was once tapped as part of AFI's MOW Workshop for ABC. She has written award shows, a PBS interstitial PSA, and once collaborated with Gore Vidal on a biopic. In addition to screenwriting, she’s a Los Angeles-based journalist who currently writes for FilmFestivals.com, LinkedIn Pulse, and is the lead writer for Awards Intelligencer based in New York. Her work has appeared in Los AngelesTimes, The Boston Globe, Newsday, DGA Magazine, and many other outlets. Quendrith also served as a writer/interviewer for Fancast, now Xfinity.tv, a Comcast portal owned by NBC/Universal. She is a member of the MPAA Domestic Press Directory, part of the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, and an LA Press Club member.  Quendrith is also a published fiction writer in the US and Canada, and recently published Redlight, Greenlight, Limelight: Red Carpet Adventures & Hollywood Journalism 101As the Founder of Screenmancer.tv, she is featured in Innovating Women: The Changing Face of Technology (2014) by Vivek Wadhwa & Farai Chideya, and is a co-creator and Ambassador for Innovating Women in Technology.

GABE SACHS & JEFF JUDAH

Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah have been writer/producer partners for nearly twenty years. Before creating and Executive Producing their medical drama, The Night Shift, for NBC, Gabe and Jeff produced and wrote on television shows such as Freaks and GeeksUndeclared90210Just Shoot MeLife as We Know It and What About Brian. In features, they wrote the successful Diary of a Wimpy Kid as well as the sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. In addition, they have sold their original movie, Magic Camp, to Disney. They are currently developing with Sony and preparing for the third season of The Night Shift

The International Family Film Festival (IFFF) is the first and longest running family film festival in the United States.  The vision: IFFF builds a peaceful global family through the discovery and sharing of quality stories by emerging artists and production companies.This year the IFFF presents its 20th annual festival at the historic Raleigh Studios in the heart of Hollywood, California. Open to the general public, the IFFF is a film market attended by professional filmmakers and scriptwriters, distributors, producers, directors, actors, production heads and film financiers. During the day on Saturday, November 7th (9 am - 6 pm), the festival is dedicated to youth activities (YouthFest!), including film screenings, a film & scriptwriting competition, industry related workshops and other topics of interest related to youth working in the film, tv and entertainment industries. 

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

No.  The IFFF is open to persons of all ages.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Parking is located in a parking garage directly across from the Security Gate on Van Ness Avenue, at the corner of Melrose Avenue and Van Ness. There is a $5 parking fee per car/day.

Is the property fully handicap accessible?

No, it is not.  The three screening rooms (Chaplin, Fairbanks and Pickford) are on the 2nd floor and unfortunately the property does NOT have an elevator or chair lift.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes, as long as the transfer pertains to one person per ticket sold.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

This is preferred for an easier, more efficient check-in experience.

What is the refund policy?

The IFFF does not provide refunds due to limited seating at all events.  

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

Yes, it's okay.
