Tokyo International Film Festival Focus on Taiwan

The 23rd Tokyo International Film Festival will hold a special-focus on films by the nextgeneration of directors from Taiwan to have emerged since the golden age of the great masters HouHsiao-hsien, Tsai Ming-liang, and Edward Yang. "Taiwanese CinemaRenaissance 2010: New Breeze of the Rising Generation," will be part of thefestival’s Winds of Asia Middle-East section.

Titles set for thesection include:

- "The FourthPortrait" from director: Mong-Hong Chung.   The story follows ten-year-old Xiang who faces alonely future after his father dies. Just when he thinks he’s going to orphanage,his estranged mother appears. A loveless mother, a hateful stepfather, a chillyhome. Where’s Xiang heading?

 - "Juliets"  by Hou Chi-jan / Shen Ko-shang / ChenYu-hsun

Cast: Vivian Hsu, WangPo-chieh/ Lee Chien-na, River Huang/ Kang Kang, Liang He-chun. The story is a reinterpretationof Shakespeare’s classic character, "Juliet." Three Juliets. Threeidentities. Three love stories…

 - "Let the Wind Carry Me"

Directors: KwanPun-leung, Chiang Hsiu-chiung

Cast: Mark Lee. Mark Leeruns his life at 24 frames per second, traveling with his eyes and heart,chasing the fleeting lights and colors, transforming them into a filmdirector's visions and voices in every audience.

  -"Taipei Exchanges.” Director: Hsiao Ya-chuan

Cast: Gwei Lun-mei,Chang Han, Zaizai Lin

Doris’ Cafe has beenturned upside down by her sister Josie, who exchanges things with customers asa way to gain attention. One day a man brings something to exchange that will changeDoris’ life…

 

"Zoom Hunting"

Director: Cho Li

Cast: Ning Chang, ZhuZhi-ying, Wen Sheng-hao

Ruyi has inadvertentlyphotographed a couple making mad passionate love. She

begins to observe

the couple with hersister Ruxing. In the end, Ruyi will find that the truth far

exceeds her imagination…

The 23rd TIFF will beheld from October 23-31, 2010 at Roppongi Hills and other venues in Tokyo.
