I saw the devil in Fantasporto and I enjoyed, though brutal...

My day  in Fantasporto: a treat of fantastic, raw ham-and-bread tapas and a glass of port. RED as blood!

PATIENT X de Yam Laranas (Filip) - 108 min. Creatures you do not want to meet: stupid, strong, violent, strange language, even for someone from Philipines. They would feed on you. and a well deserved happy end after 108 long minutes.
Second feature in the Rivoli auditorium:
THE CHAMELEON de Jean Paul Salomé (Can) - 106 min.
Based on a true story of a young french guy stealing identities.
A family welcomes home a missing child, but is he reallty that missing child, captured (disapeared or killed 4 years ago?)
Nicholas Barclay was a thirteen year old living in Louisiana with his family when he mysteriously disappeared, and though his mother Kimberley (Ellen Barkin) and sister Kathy (Emilie de Ravin) have been hopeful he'll be found, after three years it seems increasingly unlikely. To their surprise, Nicholas (Marc-André Grondin) returns home one day, claiming he'd been kidnapped by child predators but finally escaped. Kimberley and Kathy are overjoyed and welcome him home with open arms. But Nicholas's brother-in-law Brian (Brian Geraghty) senses this young man isn't really Nicholas, and Jennifer Johnson (Famke Janssen), an FBI agent looking into the case, shares his suspicions. But if Brian and Jennifer are convinced Nicholas is an imposter, why aren't Kimberley and Kathy willing to acknowledge the same evidence? Based on a true story, The Chameleon was the first English-language feature from French director Jean-Paul Salomé.
Last but not least and perfect for a film at 23.15: enought to wake you off was:
I SAW THE DEVIL de Kim Jee-won (Cor. Sul) - 144 min.
YES you read it 144 minutes, and guess what there is enough material in the scenario here to make two movies. I saw the devil and the devil is in you for instance!
The Bad Guy is sooo mean (almost funny at moments) that it takes a few weeks (to us 144 minutes) to the good guy on a revenge path to realise that he did a BIG mistake.
But he just wont let go! and we enjoy that too.

About Fantasporto

Dorminsky Mario

The Oporto International Film Festival, specializes in fantasy and science-fiction films in its Official Competitive section.
This Festival also includes the 18th New Directors Week with an Official Competition and a Retrospective section. The Festival’s director, Mário Dorminsky, is preparing, with the help of the Portuguese Film Institute, a program with Portuguese Films for the benefit of the foreign guests in Fantasporto.
The Festival runs now in 5 theatres (2,600 seats altogether ) and screens nearly new 200 feature films each year. The press coverage of the Festival is made by all the most important Portuguese newspapers, radio stations and television networks and by foreign specialized press. This allows press dossiers of about 5000 clippings every year and represents a unique media coverage in Portugal for similar cultural events.

Almost 110,000 entries, per year is the average of the Festival’s past editions.
