Day 3 of the competition Bellini, Korean treat with the Chaser

Bellini e o Demónio (in fantastic competition) still no comment

Made out of cinematographic passions and pulp fiction, this is a thriller that hooks the viewer to its narrative. Bellini has just become the owner of a bankrupt detective agency. He's in debt, without clients and has a tremendous capacity to get into trouble. One day a strange man hires him to find a mysterious book. In partnership with the journalist Gala, who happens to be his ex-girlfriend, they put the clues together and find themselves before a macabre puzzle. In the search for answers, Bellini begins to be influenced by a mysterious power. Obstinate in revealing the mystery he plunges into a maze of rituals and satanic sects, without realizing that death is getting closer. The only chance to survive is to find the book. Fábio Assunção, renowned actor of soap operas such as "Celebridade" and "Paraíso Tropical" among many others, embodies this Bellini that is so much like the greatest detectives of the North American cinema noir.

Directed by Marcelo Galvão

Marcelo Galvão, born in São Paulo, studied advertising in São Paulo and then moved to United States, where he studied cinema at the New York Film Academy. In 2005 he made his first film, "Quarta B", that was followed by  "Lado B: Como Fazer um Longa Sem Grana no Brasil" and "Bellini and the Devil". He has just concluded the post-production of "La Riña".

The Chaser Orient Express competition

Excellent crowd pleaser Korean movie, rainy, dark with brave humor

and Oscar night for all at the festival or in the room, Slumdog wins big (8 oscar) and beats The Wrestler

Acclaimed in Cannes and with the rights to its American remake already sold, "The Chaser" is the renewed commitment of Korean cinema in the field of thriller.

The inspiration for this story came from real life. In the troubled neighborhood where the filmmaker lived, one night a woman screamed desperately for help. No one responded to her call and the next day she was found dead with signs of extreme violence. In

turn of this fatal fait divers, the narrative is built.

When several prostitutes are murdered with the same ritual, the former policeman that protects them identifies a mark of a serial killer. In the urban jungle the destiny will put face to face the predator looking for its next victim and the ex-cop who hasn't lost his

instinct of hunter. A crazy and merciless persecution, written in thick blood and intense suspense.

A devastating combination of the best from police structure with the most visceral of Asian violence, makes "The Chaser" an exponent of the genres new forms. The director Na Hong Jin gains with "The Chaser" the partnership with Park Chan-wook ("Oldboy") and Bong Joon-Ho ("The Host"), forming a trio of great masters of Asian terror.

Directed by Na Hong-Jin

At the age of  30,  Na Hong-Jin becomes the new star from South Korea in the global cinema sky with "The Chaser", his promising debut in feature-length film. His previous short films, "Perfect Red Snapper Dish" (2005) and "Sweat" (2007), received awards respectively at the Festival Mise-en-scéne and the Festival in Pusan.

The Oporto International Film Festival, specializes in fantasy and science-fiction films in its Official Competitive section.
This Festival also includes the 18th New Directors Week with an Official Competition and a Retrospective section.
