The competition programs of Go Short 2021 has been announced. These programs underline the exclusive focus that the festival places on young, often unknown film talent and offer a big variety of short films. From animation to documentary and from fiction to art films. From April 8, film buffs can indulge themselves. At that moment Go Short 2021 kicks off with an online program in which the competition programs can be seen. Besides the online program, there will be various offline activities planned until the summer. 

Diversity 

Go Short always strives for diversity in all areas. A good representation of society within the competition programs is therefore of great importance for the festival. For example, the division of makers in terms of gender is equal and, partly thanks to the broadened selection committee, a great diversity can be seen in the backgrounds of the makers and subjects of the films.

Covid-19 

In a reality that has been in the grip of Covid-19 for a year now, it goes without saying that there are also films that deal with this subject. Especially the loneliness that comes with the present time seems to have been a source of inspiration and returns in several films. This is also the case in An Act of Affection by the talented Viet Vu. In this short, he interviews a lonely man, eventually stepping out from behind the camera to show him his affection. 

Selection 

This year, the selection committee paid special attention to productions by makers with a non-Western background. One of the central themes within this competition is the experience of identity with dual nationality. We see this theme reflected in, among others, When You Hear the Divine Call by Festus Tol, The Departure by Saïd Hamich Benlarbi and Nenad by Mladen Bundalo. 

Go Short has been committed to new talent for years, but also follows makers throughout their careers. This year, as a result, several films have been selected from makers who have previously been seen at the festival. Former student competition winner Sebastian Mulder returns with his new film about the wolf Naya (Naya - Der Walt hat Tausend Augen) and former maker in focus Jacqueline Lentzou can be seen with her new short film The End of Suffering (A Proposal). In addition, a film by Yuyan Wang is selected for the student competition for the second year in a row. 

World premieres 

The festival has a special homegrown world premiere this year. Death of Darkness, the new documentary by Go Short alumni and old jury member Jasmijn Schrofer, follows a North Kenyan village about the connection to the electricity grid. A wonderful documentary that exposes light pollution, but above all shows how impressively beautiful the starry sky can be.

Go Short is the platform for short film and talent in the Netherlands. The organization is active all year round in the field of development, presentation, distribution and promotion of short film and talented makers. The annual international film festival in April is the highlight. In addition to a competition that qualifies for the Oscars, BAFTA and European Film Awards, it includes extensive programming for both audiences and international film professionals, as well as an educational program. Since 2019, Go Short has also been taking place in Arnhem and the Gelderland Film Pitch is being organized. Go Short has a unique position within the Dutch film landscape and is part of a solid international network. The 13th edition of the festival will take place this year. Because of the corona measures, a hybrid program has been developed instead of a five-day international event. 

The competition programs can be viewed online from 8 April. Ticket sales will start in mid-March. More information will follow very soon via website and social media.
