Penelope Miller joins ‘In Conversation’ @ Sarasota!
Penelope Ann Miller, star of this year’s THINK OF ME playing at the SFF and last year’s Academy Award® winner for Best Picture THE ARTST, participates in the intimate In Conversation series. This discussion will highlight Ms. Miller’s work over the course of her illustrious career and her approach to her craft as one of our finest, most versatile actors.

Penelope Ann Miller has shared the screen with some of the most notable and renowned leading men and directors in Hollywood. This distinguished list includes Al Pacino and Sean Penn in director Brian de Palma’s Carlito’s Way for which she received a Golden Globe nomination; Marlon Brando and Matthew Broderick in The Freshman directed by Andrew Bergman; Robert De Niro and Robin Williams in Penny Marshall’s Awakenings; Robert Downey Jr. in Sir Richard Attenborough’s Chaplin; Danny DeVito and Gregory Peck in Norman Jewison’s Other People’s Money; Matthew Broderick & Christopher Walken in Mike Nichols’ Biloxi Blues; and Arnold Schwarzenegger in Ivan Reitman’s Kindergarten Cop.
And now to add to her distinguished body of work, Miller can currently be seen in Michel Hazanavicius’ black & white silent feature sensation The Artist from the Weinstein Company which has received critical praise as well as numerous awards nominations; 6 Golden Globe nominations including best feature, 3 SAG nominations including best ensemble and 11 Critics’ Choice nominations including best ensemble. Miller plays the wife of a 1920’s silent film star played by Jean Dujardin who was named best actor at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. The film opened to rave reviews at last year’s Cannes Film Festival as well as the Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals. Miller’s screen presence at Toronto also included a role in the drama Think of Me opposite Lauren Ambrose. Miller was also honored last year at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival where they showcased her respected body of work from over the past 25 years.
Miller recently completed filming on the independent period piece Saving Lincoln which tells the story of Lincoln’s presidency and assassination through the eyes of the US Marshall, Ward Hill Lamon, who was tasked with protecting him. Miller plays Mary Todd Lincoln. Last year, she was seen playing Ray Romano’s recently separated wife in the critically acclaimed drama Men of a Certain Age on TNT. She has also completed Avi Arad’s (Ironman, Spider-Man) science fiction family adventure Robosapien; and the independent 1950’s drama Saving Grace B. Jones.
Miller’s recent credits also include Rob Reiner’s latest film Flipped which he wrote and directed for Warner Brothers as well as Sony Pictures’ box office hit The Messengers. Thesupernatural thriller was produced by Sam Raimi. Miller starred opposite Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga).
Miller was named “Star of Tomorrow” by the Motion Picture Bookers Club and “Most Promising Actress” by the Chicago Film Critics Association. She received a special jury award for Best Performance at the Hollywood Film Festival for her role in the independent feature Rhapsody in Bloom, and a Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of ‘Emily’ in Broadway’s Tony-winning revival of “Our Town.” Miller’s television credits include “Rocky Marciano” opposite Jon Favreau and George C. Scott, “The Last Don” opposite Joe Montegna, “The Mary Kay Letourneau Story” for which she won critical acclaim and “Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story” opposite James Woods.
Miller left her native Los Angeles when she was 18 and moved to New York, where she studied acting at HB Studios under Herbert Berghoff. Two years later, Miller got her big break on Broadway when she originated the role of “Daisy Hanningan” in Neil Simon’s Tony Award-winning play Biloxi Blues. Later, she would reprise her role in Universal’s film version, directed by Mike Nichols.
Miller currently lives in Los Angeles.
