2011 The Fort Lee Film Commission is proud to announce its 2011 Alice Guy Blache Award recipient, Diane Raver, Executive Director of the Garden State Film Festival. The Alice Award was established in 2008 by the Fort Lee Film
Commission to promote the legacy of the first woman director in cinema
history who built Solax Studio in Fort Lee, NJ in 1912. Madame Blache
produced, wrote and directed hundreds of films at this location through
World War I before women had the right to vote. Prior to her arrival in the
United States she was one of the first three filmmakers in France and she
worked on synchronized sound and color films in the early 1900's.

Previous recipients of the Alice Award are Academy Award winning actress
director Lee Grant (2008), Director's Guild of American Vice President and
One Life to Live Director Gary Donatelli (2009) and actress Parker Posey
(2010). This award will be presented to Ms. Raver during the Garden State
Film Festival opening ceremonies Friday April 1st a the Paramount Theater, A
symposium about Alice Guy Blache will take place April 2nd 3 PM symposium
Reel Jersey Girls: Alice Guy to Today- a Century of Women in Film at the
Parlor Gallery, 717 Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ as a part of the GSFF
festivities.
